Ok, so I believe I've found what I love to do. Design; Generic, yes. Love, yes. Though, I have no clue how to go about this. Ok, so. My life for the past two years has been a chaotic time frame. I wasn't able to become freshman last year. So, I'll be seeing if I will be able to attend this fall.

I was wondering if anyone around here and or may know someone who is into this field. I've never have been able to learn much Maya, 3D studio, nor any other demensional software. Because of the lack of. Though, I've found I'm somewhat quick at picking up things. Though, that's not the point.

I'm really excited about this potential advent. I could really see myself wanting to design the next generation of BMWs? Possibly? I dont know. lol Though it would be a nice dream. So, if anyone has any helpful guidence. I will greatly appreiciate it.

Thanks in advance.

You should put the word "Graphic" in front of "Design." There are many types of design work, and most don't involve photoshop or Maya.

Go to a school with a good program in what you want to do.

I want to get into an Industrial Design Type of Field. I know it's not 100% software. Though, there is some significance of software with the field no?

Most of my ID buddies in school used Photoshop on occasion, but it seemed much more hands-on than what you're describing.

There are some good jobs in the field, but lots of my ID friends ended up not getting a job in the field due to the sometimes crappy starting pay or lack of opening positions.

Hello. I'm an Industrial Design concentration/minor and mech-E major. ID focuses purely on how a product work and how it will interact with its user. Car design, consumer product design, toy design and things like shoe design would fall under ID. In ID, we've used VERY LITTLE software. IF we do use software it's to scan our work and make pdf's or powerpoints from the scans. I'd say all of our work is done by hand and if we DO use photoshop it's for coloring or cleaning up our drawings (although most of our coloring is done by marker or airbrush). Do you like to draw with your hand? use markers? lotsa pencil work?

Also, like Def said, there are many fields of "design" such as 3d animation, new media design, and so much more. Talk to an academic advisor. My school has a huge art and design program too. Check it out: www.rit.edu

Yes, I do have the ability to draw by hand. I've been an art monkey ever since gradeschool. I love messing around with new perspectives.

I really appreciate you posting about your school. I think I've may have found the school I want to go to? You tell me. What's it like there? How do you feel about that school?

Anyway, I appreciate going out of your way.

I'll be happy. I've become accustomed to the ideal of me lacking financial backing. I've been poor before. So, it dosen't really matter. As long I have an edumacation, work in something I love to do, and am healthy. That and still have my Big Mexican Women.

lol

I love new concepts, Circut Design, and UI Friendly products. I would love to one day be apart of a creation that will help society in a significant way. If it's a new vehicle, or maybe just another hand held tool. It's something.

I think first you need to consider your choice of school because that will in part determine your ability to become employed in the field. In addition, remember that most college students change majors at some point, but it sounds like you have a good grasp on what you would like to do.

I've learned that many people who are successful businesspeople or attorneys changed their majors from premed.

hey, PM me... Work here blocks out all IM services. Ya might wanna check these schools out too:

Art Center College of Design (Pasadena, Calif.)
University of Cincinnati (Great all around design school. e.g. interior, architecure, ID, etc)
Pratt Institute (New York City)
Rhode Island School of Design

Those are probably the top rated ID schools in the US.
