damn that is awsome i cant wait to show my brother he loves them too.

Robstah 07-09-2006, 07:27 PM It's a beautiful vert, but that is WAY too much for a car with 343,000 miles on it. Edmunds is going around 2500 for a 91 e30 vert in perfect shape. If he comes down a grand or two, I may grab it. Other than that, it's just WAY too much.

I would guess the car will sell easily at his asking price. Mileage is just a number.

Ditto!!!!
I just saw a stock 325ix go for $4500 on another board. The market for e30s is STRONG right now.

ohnoes 07-09-2006, 11:35 PM Dear God, 343,000 miles! I don't care if mileage is "just" a number, it is definitely worth considering. While the car is pure hawtness, I dunno if it will go for almost $6k with that mileage, assuming the motor/tranny wasn't rebuilt or anything.
EDIT: According to Carfax, this car has been driven a lot per year (like avg 27,000 miles per year for the last 6 yrs or so).
Still, I don't want to be a naysayer. Good luck on this sale...it's a sweet car!
qidm67 07-10-2006, 12:40 AM I saw that at the varsity. It looked clean as hell. The paint looked great and the seats looked new.

I know, but my dad loves Edmunds and KBB and believes in the pricing through them. My dad is actually looking to drop some money on another car for me, so I can persue a track career with my current car. I can't get him to budge unless he thinks it is worth it.
Plus, with that many miles, you have to take into consideration the transmission wear, bushings, and so on. I know he did some valve work on it, but that doesn't mean that in the future a piston ring can get stuck and cause some damage. It just seems like he is adding mod value as well, and everyone knows that you can't really do that, unless it is some crazy engine swap or so on. I would personally be afraid of rubbing with those front wheels sticking out so much. I can make it over speed bumps in my car, but I doubt it with this one.
snikwad 07-10-2006, 01:10 AM I agree the mileage is high as a mofo.
And that price id definately try to bargain down a grand or 2, but it can easily sell for that price. KBB, Edmunds and all them fukers are just guidance, and the common trend i see, is that wha they say used BMWs go for is usually quite inaccurate compared to what theyre actually commonly being sold for. So yeah he can get his price easily.

i am by no means an expert here, but why would you want to track a drop top. Let alone a 15 yo drop top thats been driven around the world.
Kinda the wrong body body style and condition, dont you think. You need a closed roof car.
Plus that thing is too sexy to track, you need to pimp that thing on the strip.

I would be tracking my current car (the 4D 325i in my sig) and would be using the vert as a daily driver. It would be the perfect daily driver too.
As for pricing, I can get a 93 740iL with half the miles that this vert has for 5300.
snikwad 07-10-2006, 01:35 AM ah.. i see. ok well hell you better get to convincing bro..

Maintaining that 4.0L v8 versus maintaining the 2.5 6 cyl isn't the same tho :stickoutt
Yes it's high mileage but if all the bushings and necessary work has been done, don't be turned off. If you're serious - check out the car and negotiate :)
95m3Lightweight 07-10-2006, 06:45 AM Bump for a clean E30iC. Have enjoyed my 88iC for 6 years now and consider it a near perfect 4 seater conv. 26mpg, easy to talk at 80+mph etc. Only wish I had some recaro's to swap out with the stock sport seats, lol.
other posts deleted out of respect for seller.
BimmerDawg 07-10-2006, 07:39 AM Using Edmunds and KBB as a reference on a 16 year-old car? :rolleyes
I've seen Wael's car in person and it is very clean and I can assure you it's had every service performed. My suggestion to those hating on the price: Make him an offer via PM of what you think it's worth and see what happens. This garbage of bashing everyone's price on this board is a huge problem and pisses me the hell off every time I see it.
Oh yeah...free bump for a nice car! :D

Agreed. I sold my 91 325iC about a year ago. The car was MINT and had 135,000 on it. I sold the car for $8,900 about year ago. You wouldnt believe all the dummys I had offer me between $2000 and $3500 for the car, just because KBB and the other sources said that was its worth. Nice E30s are getting harder and harder to come by these days and I have no doubt that he can get full asking price for the vehicle. Bump for a clean car!

snikwad 07-10-2006, 08:05 AM Those are NOT Recaro heated seats, they are factory sport seats which ARE NOT Recaros regardless of how many times folks like to call them Recaros:nono
Clean looking car but I cant see that much with that many miles. :eyecrazy
Once again i am by no means an expert, im just asking, but they look just liek the Recaros i used to se eback in the day, excpet theyre leather and not fabric.
What makes em NOT recaros?
e9nine 07-10-2006, 09:26 AM Euro e30s came with Recaros as well as e21 320iS' and other bimmers. If you want to see if you have a Recaro seat - look at your seat base or the frame rails to see either the Reacaro Tag or a roundel if it's just the regular sport seat.
Here's a pic of my true Recaro with e30 specific rails
http://s122290185.onlinehome.us/ForSale/images/ds_4sale_005.jpg
snikwad 07-10-2006, 11:43 AM Recaro is a brand name, not type of seat. All sport seats look about the same save for minor differences. Doesnt make all or any of them Recaros. The BMW sport seat is not a recaro because Recaro didnt make them. Recaro does make seats for car companies, in fact they supply thousands of seats to many different companies but they are not built to the standard of a Recaro Label seat. Which is what one thinks when they see Recaro mentioned in an ad.
Mike
:lol
1st of, i know recaro is a brand. Im not some young buck thats new to car.
2nd, Recaro has been supplying seats for several manufacturers for YEARS, WITH the Recaro name on em. hell even the VW Jetta GLi that came out in 04 had Recaro written on the seat.
3rd, Just because its wasnt sold in the store, and came with the car doesnt mean its of lesser quality, i see why u may say that, but i'll believe it when i see it on thier website or something.
Now i dont know about you, but the style of those seat look liek straight up classic 80s Recaro seats. I cant see a company like BMW going thru the effort to make Recaro "knock offs" for thier car.
So once again, if you havent personally seen that car, how can u be so sure they arent recaros?
Robstah 07-10-2006, 12:07 PM Well like you, I am not some young bucko new to BMW's. In fact I have some straight up 80's Store Bought Recaros that I still own to this day. I also own a 88 325iC with those exact black BMW sport seats. So since my fat ass has put about 80k miles on identical black BMW sport seats I can kinda spot the difference. They DO NOT LOOK LIKE ANYTHING RECARO MADE IN THAT TIME FRAME. Compare the pics of the Euro E30 with Recaro branded seats vs the BMW seats. To my eye it is easy to tell the difference. If you sit in both you will feel the difference quite easily. I owned a XR4Ti back in the day and it had seats made by Recaro with their stamp on the frame. I didnt list the car as having Recaros when it was sold since it was a spec-ed seat built by Recaro to Ford Standards. Just simply not the same as their Recaro branded line of seats.
As to Recaro making seats, it is the same with any company. They build what the manufactor specs vs the store sold BRANDED Recaro seats are built to a very high standard. In fact, compare the VW or Ford Mustang for that matter ,Recaros vs what was offered in the aftermarket. A totally different class of seat with the aftermarket Recaro having much nicer fabric, knobs and controls etc.
Same goes for lots of items. Say hand tools such as Snap On. They also made craftsman in the same plant, the old Kobalt line at Lowes etc. Same company but a very different quality of tool.
I am not arguing with you but simply stating something based on your quote "what makes it not a recaro" one of those if you have to ask, I doubt anyone is going to have an answer that suits you.
Plastic = Vinyl? :devillook
snikwad 07-10-2006, 12:09 PM Ok, well im not trying to start an arguement either man.
They look like Recaros ive seen and sat in tho, only differenc ebeing the headrest. I think they are.
I see what your saying about the quality difference, but dont make it sound like its a POS seat that they supply as OE. you know.

tabasco 07-10-2006, 05:29 PM Ok...really guys. I am just trying to help a friend out by posting his car up on a forum where an enthusiast might pick it up. He would appreciate that. Wael has been working on BMW's for the last 10 or so years. He knows far more about E30's than anyone else I have met to date. So I tend to trust him. I am not in a position to argue back and forth about the details on the car. If you see something that you think is wrong...call him. He is a nice guy. If he made a mistake in the list that he gave to me...he will be the 1st to admit it and correct his error. Then my phone will ring and I will change the listing.

95m3Lightweight 07-11-2006, 06:11 PM I've driven that car a few times and those seats are fantastic!!:buttrock
I have been searching for that exact model, LS I believe for some time. I want period correct looking seats for my 635. The stock sport seats are very pricey and hard to find in good shape. New Recaros just dont look quite right. One option is to take E30 sport seats such as the ones in the car for sale in this thread and adapt the rails. But the E30 seat is narrow and looks somewhat strange too with so much space on either side of the seat. I also find the bottom too tight for my frame and uncomfortable after 2-3hours.
Just thinking back I have owned 5 BMW's from the 80's with sport seats (of course I do not know what they look like it seems) and now I wish I had kept every set when I sold the cars. Who knew good seats would be worth $1k 10 years later.

M3Alpine99 07-11-2006, 09:15 PM dont use edmunds or KBB
use nada.com
thats what dealers use and everyone in the know ;)
go with the good stuff
edmunds is ok... KBB is the worst....
AWESOME e30 vert though!!!
I don't know how you guys could say negative things about this car, without actualy seeing it. I personaly went twice to look at it, and let me tell you: it's one of the most beautiful e30 verts I've ever seen. Also, how can you use kbb, edmunds, or even nada (it's a little better though) to judge the value of this cab? It's worth every penny of the 6,000 he's asking for it, if not more. So what if the engine's got 3xx on it? It's been rebuilt, along with the clutch in the last few thousand miles, along with all the bushings, gaskets, etc.
Those are NOT Recaro heated seats, they are factory sport seats which ARE NOT Recaros regardless of how many times folks like to call them Recaros:nono

This guy is 99% right. Wael is a very nice guy, and only two very minor details were overlooked on this car:
1. the parking brake
2. wires to the sub are showing infront of the backseat, behind the ash tray.
Becides those two, the car's in as perfect condition as your going to find in every way. Go look for yourself.
95m3Lightweight 07-29-2006, 09:28 AM They're not Recaro heated seats? Have you seen them in person? ovbiously not.

2 thumbs up for a nice e30 conv., I own one and like it very much.
But those are NOT Recaro's, LETS SAY IT TOGETHER THOSE ARE NOT RECAROS. Regardless if you looked at the car or not, you have not looked at many then if you dont know the difference. Those are the STOCK seats as supplied by BMW, not Recaros. I own a fnnn E30 Conv just like the one in question and have the EXACT same STOCK seats. Did you not see the picture posted above that shows the difference between the stock seats and Actual Recaros?
As to mileage, yes it is a problem. The car might look great but that is high mileage. My car started having major sub systems failure around the 230,000 mile mark. Window motors, fuel pumps, brake lines, transmission, rear end, AC compressor, etc etc etc. BTW, factory maintance was followed from day 1. While the car might be great due to a tech owning and keeping it in topnotch condition, one can only expect other major items to be near their service life limit when you get past 300k miles. As such one must consider this when buying a car and thus the price can be an issue. If the car is in cosmetically great shape as it appears, then it might be worth the price since it is easier to replace parts than restore the appearance on a old car. I hope he sells it for asking as I would love to get more than $2500 for my 88iC which I see them go far ALL THE TIME.
Mike
Every person I know (not on the internet) says that Recaro made the seats for BMW. They may not be right, but that's what I've heard the last 2 years.
Tom... welcome to the real world (and the internet). There are a lot of people out there who don't know what they're talking about and spout off anyway. In my experience, Mike is not one of them.
Maybe so. But there's no hard facts either way(That I've seen), and my dad and his brother tell me they are.
Since so many people think different things, maybe someone should prove it?
BimmerDawg 07-30-2006, 10:19 PM Welcome, Tom! :wave
I've seen the car and I can tell you I'm jealous.
Bavarian_6shot 11-23-2006, 12:55 AM From the dead. This still for sale?
atl530i 11-23-2006, 08:53 AM It's a beautiful vert, but that is WAY too much for a car with 343,000 miles on it. Edmunds is going around 2500 for a 91 e30 vert in perfect shape. If he comes down a grand or two, I may grab it. Other than that, it's just WAY too much.
+1
I would guess the car will sell easily at his asking price. Mileage is just a number.
I agree. Someone will buy it. I'd probably buy it if I had the extra cash. I always say mileage is just a number, as long as everything works and runs right.

Tom C bought it BTW.

Cool deal. He got a veryt nice E30 vert :)
s14realm3 11-23-2006, 10:38 AM "M-Technic Body Kit" its not like the one on my white convertible. I don't see any kit on the car. It has the lower "is" lip spoiler, but thats it. just wanta change from RECARO subject to something else. nice vert still
kendogg 11-23-2006, 11:14 AM I've seen this car on the forums before, isn't the owner on the board?
And yes, pricing guideline books are worthless in this day and age for cars like E30's. Thats like saying the insurance company should only give you the $4k or so an E28 M5 is 'worth'. Bullshit. Our cars are to the point now where they are enthusiast cars, and guidelines are driven by market and market only, not what some books say.

Here are a few pictures I found on the web. I own a 88 325iC with black BMW sport seats. They do NOT say Recaro anywhere on them.
I also happen to own a Recaro LS like the one pictured below.

As you can see, they are similair in shape, thats it. Most people call ANY sport shaped seat a Recaro basically because they dont know the difference. When one calls a seat a Recaro, unless they purchased it or see the name, then how do you know it is a Recaro?
Here are few more examples

Now examples of real RECARO seats.

SeattleBMW325i 01-06-2007, 06:20 PM it's actually very simple, recaro did make seats that look just like the sport seats, the ones in e30s are not recaros though, they are copies(good copies, but still copies). the one's in e21s are actually recaros, IIRC, which only feeds the belief that e30 ones are in fact recaros.
now, i don't see why it matters, by calling them recaros, you are refering to the style that the seats are, not who actually made them neccesarily(in most cases).
yes i know this thread is a million years old, but it was linked to in another thread
