View Full Version : Get a beater?
Jetter2 07-08-2006, 05:35 PM Yes yes, I know, I allready have one..
Questions is this;
I am about to get a bike soon. Should I sell my cars, buy the bike outright, and then get some lil $1000 beater or what?
These cars are getting to expensive to feed, thats the main justification behind a bike.
That and I am averaging $300/mo in tickets. Fuqin insnane...
Stück 07-08-2006, 05:51 PM Your car is a $1000 beater :)
Jetter2 07-08-2006, 06:03 PM LoL God damnit.
At current gas prices, the bike will take ~3 yrs to pay for itself in fuel savings.
Then you have to take into account the possibility(more like probability) of a wreck etc etc.
I love the BMW's but I'm thinkign of selling my cabibe. I can prolly dump the cabbie for $3k, and I know I can get at least $800 for the hard top on ebay.
These old cars just require alot of upkeep. I love my car and its fun to drive, but its just getting to much of a problem child to keep up with.
El Kabong 07-08-2006, 06:04 PM Not everybody can afford a 7yr old car, friend.
Jetter2 07-08-2006, 06:08 PM I love my car, I just never would of believed that they are this much upkeep.
Stück 07-08-2006, 06:33 PM Not everybody can afford a 7yr old car, friend.Nah, I'm just giving Jetter shit.
I just sold my e30, a 1987 325iS, for $16,500. :buttrock
I can't afford this M3 either, I just happened to have the money laying around so I picked it for a new DD.
Jetter I seriously wouldn't sell it for a bike. Do a tuneup on it, drive lgihtly, and you will get fine milage. Upkeep isn't a big deal.. just do the important things.
SecretAznSauce 07-08-2006, 06:52 PM i'll giveya 1000 for it. Jordan you cant compare you car to anyone else's
Jetter2 07-08-2006, 07:23 PM you're car wasnt a run of the mill 325is...
I think I'll keep it. And when September rolls around, if I still want a bike, I'll get one.
I got a bunch of bills comming up with school starting, books etc etc.
I'll wait till all that is finalized, THEN I will get a bike.
Jimmie Jazz 07-08-2006, 08:54 PM What color is your hard top?

He's talking about the hardtop for his vert .
Hey Jizzer , I've got a nice eta that you could pick up for cheap and use as a beater .
Also know of a dirt cheap prelude thats still available as of today .

That's what I was talking/asking about too. :)

I gotta get the headliner redone on the hardtop, inside it sags, buddy of mine said I can get it redone for about $50.
I need to get the seats redone in the cabbie, get the top redone(its fine but its just a shitty nylon top), get the hardop headliner redone, get the CSB fixed, and park it and ride a damn bike.
These old german cars, shit just gets old and brittle and can break I guess?
Phypha 07-09-2006, 04:50 AM Let me give you some advice man. This has helped me a whole lot.
Copper! Scrap Iron! Spare Time!= $$$$$$$$
I wouldn't know how down you are to be in the nitty gritty. Though, if you give out advertisements to local city folk. "I'll haul your metal junk off for free."
I make 300-800 in a three day period. Though, I like to sell a lot of Copper. So, since some of you live in newly developed areas. I say take advatage of it. Take the scrap copper wireing off their hands. :D
Jimmie Jazz 07-09-2006, 09:34 AM There is a lot of copper theft going on these days too. Cellphone companies are constantly having the ground/lightning rod cabling stolen from their towers, and construction sites are having problems too. Power companies are being hit too, but not as much, since there is a fair amount of danger involved unless you understand their layouts. Most municipalities and companies are already savvy to the value, and factor in the 'scrap' value of recyclable materials as part of their business plan.
Jetter2, you interested in selling your hardtop?
Jetter2 07-09-2006, 11:57 AM Naw, I'm going to keep my car.
When I move, I am just going to throw a tarp over it, and ride my bike everywhere.

Fortunately, there's a bunch of old people that collect massive amounts of this 'scrap' in my neighborhood and similar ones aswell. Mexican/American midclass/poor oriented neighbor hoods are a very good source for free scrap.
I usually take my Dad's truck out to the site, and haul everything away that is of value..
By the way. Aluminum is up 85-1.00 /pound.

Slow down or establish a relationship with a ticket attorney and save $300 a month.

Wow, you're dumber than I thought, and a slow learner to boot.
Jetter2 07-09-2006, 11:44 PM Well there all diffrent things.
1 ticket was no plates, another was stopsign, another was speeding.
I just need to throttle back and move to the city and not speed. Our county just got an entire new fleet of Chargers...wondering how there paying for them.
Irish03 07-10-2006, 12:48 AM I can tell you that the Charger fleet was subsidized by traffic fines, since it's about nothing but revenue. It has nothing to do with safety.
Keep the equipment on your car up to code, don't run stop signs, and get a detector and use it. That's my advice. I stick by my record of having approximately 23 tickets since 1997 and the fact that NONE of them were ever reflected on my driving record. In addition, I've never had to attend driving school.
Yes, they did cost me, but I'd rather pay $300 to a lawyer than even $10 to some court.
