Hey guys,
I thought I heard a few of yall mention that you had some bikes in the past.

Thoughts/regrets on bike ownership? A buddy of mine is getting a sport bike at the end of the month, GSXR 1000.

For starters, I am to short for the bike, and seccondly thats way to much bike for me.

I have found some older bikes that I really like, some from the 70's thru the 90's. I am a begenning rider, and I don't want some crazy ass 200mph motorcycle, just a commuter/weekend driver. Time to sell my eta and stop driving the cabbie.

I have found a coupple of bikes on craigstlist that peaked my intrest, any reccomendations on size/era of bike, or what I should be looking for and stay away from?

Once I get the bike I want to go take a saftey course, any reccomendations?

I got a buddy here at work who owned Beamer Bikes, and he swears they are the best ones since sliced bread. But I always heard jap bikes completly own Euro bikes?

Meh, a Ninja 250 is only $3300 out the door brand new. It gets 74mpg and thats the ultimate commuter vehicle, I'll prolly just get that.

yeah. stuff never stays broke more than 3 days around me unless I'm waiting on parts. I keep hoping my motor will magicly blow up so I can get a Euro s50b32......and a 6 spd. Maybe that 150 shot of NOS will do the trick once I get it installed.

Did you enjoy it? My buddy and I are gonna signup for the MSF course and then get our lisences before I ever start looking at bikes.

Did you like the 250 Ninja? How was power, ability on the highway to pass etc etc. Everyone I talked to said the best 250 out there is the Ninja hands down.

Also, what do you think full coverage insurance is gonna be on me? $1k annually? I wanna sell the eta, buy a bike, and turn the cabbie into my weekend/shitty day car. Plus, I can get the insurance on the cabbie dropped down to that "weekend driver" shit, since I'll be commuting on the bike.

the ninja 250 is more than youll need unless you're stunting and shit... i'm glad i learned on it.. it looks semi-sporty but sits more upright rather than crouched...

i bought a used one with 4k miles for 1700, rode it for 4 months and sold it for 2500 in the great gas price hike of 2005

my insurance was about 45-55/mo for full covg + theft prot

oh and you cant use a bike as a commuter and a car as a "leisure".. nice try

Yeah my buddies GSXR 1000, even though hes 6'4 and has long arms, hes always crouched forward somewhat. So the bike has good pickup etc even while on the highway?

What do you mean not use bike as commuter and car as leisure? I don't wanna drive the car unless I got shit to go pick up etc etc. After riding one of my neighbors Honda 600's...im hooked.

But I was suprised to find the 0-60 is 5.7secconds-seems sluggish for a bike.

Get a busa and video tape yourself topping it out/killing yourself. Problem solved...

First time sportbikers should stay with the 600's. All sizes are about the same up to 80 or so and then you separate the men from the boys. Any new 600 can hit 150-160 and do the 1/4 under 11. Hondas inspire confidence which is great for new riders. Yamahas you sit on them and lurk over the bars and the seats are uncomfortable. Kawasaki is about the same but slightly better seat. Suzuki you sit in them and the seat is way comfortable but they take more to ride them as well more experienced riders like the Suzuki and how you have to work the bike. Less experienced riders like how easy it is to lean and turn in on a Yamaha or Honda. You can pretty much do everything on a 600 that you can do on a liter bike plus you save on insurance and purchase price.

Oh yeah, I forgot the Suzuki is not only cheaper but comes with solo seat and a steering stabilizer just food for thought!

I always liked teh old ZX6r and ZX7R Kawi's. They seemed more comfortable than the GSXR's. The R1 I had was really comfortable to ride, and had a ton of power. But I can't recommend a liter bike to a beginner. I'd vote ninja 250 or 600 if you are going to ride alot.

Well, my buddy is gettin a liter GSXR for his first bike...that is fuckign RETARDED.

The baby ninja really appeals to me. its $3k for a brand new bike, plus it saves me gas etc etc.

I would personally like to find a very solid middle of the road bike. I wanna be able to pass traffic on the highway, and everyone says the Ninja can do 100, but I want to be able to move on the highway.

I am mainly looking for another means of transportation, other than my cabbie. I'm tied of putting miles on her, and I wanna make it my weekend /shitty day driver. The bike is just what I need, cheap, fun, efficent transportation.

Plus im restricted by size. I'm a short guy, so those GSXR's are too damn big for me. There was a Ninja 500 that fit me pretty well, but the 250 just felt like a glove. I'm looking for something fun and peppy to ride. Dan is gettin a liter bike and there is no way I'd ever but one of those bikes without years of riding.

Well Everyone bitches that the baby Ninja just isnt enough bike..I mean, what are the wanting? The ninja 500 appeals to me, but for my first bike, I think I'm just going to get the 250 and then geta 500 or 650 in a few years.

Thoughts?

I have heard alot of people that go out and buy 500, 600, 1 literr bikes etc etc for their first ride.

And that was the end of that story. I'm trying to limit myself to the 250 beacuse then I am limiting myself greatly in how much trouble I can get into. Alot of people say the 250=perfect starter bike beacuse its forgiving, slow, but still enough bike to learn on.

I've been considering a 500, but the more I think about it, the more I just wanna get a 250 for commuting.

Doesn't really matter. It's really about the person. My friend started on a 600 and did fine. Another started on a 600 and wrecked on the highway. Doing some stupid shit. I don't know if you've taken the MSF course but you might not even want a bike afterwards.

LoL, alot of people said that.

Most the guys on the biker forums I talked to said go take MSF then get a 250. Ride for a year, then get something bigger.

Toph did that and said the 250 was plenty for him, I gotta Army buddy with a lNinja 250 and he seems to enjoy it.
