There isn't one. There isn't one of those either. Quit looking. Stock oil temp gauges only exist in some M-cars and there isn't a water temp gauge on the E90.

You don't. Clearly, according to BMW, that is information that we no longer need to know or is irrelevant.

Seriously, I try to wait about 5 min in the summer, 10 in the winter, but more often than not, I just don't pay attention anymore and drive however. In the E30 M3, I go strictly by the gauges, but that is a different beast.

Give it about 5-10minutes.

yea it drives me nuts to not know the temp.. even if its the water temp. At least the 335i from what i seen in pics has a temp gauge.

They gave the german police a fleet of E90 cars to beat on... and after the abuse of the german police force, they determined that waiting for the car to warm up was unnecessary. The german police just jumped in and went pedal to the floor... no warm up necessary. The cars showed no ill effects when it came to abnormal wear.

At least that is what the article said...

I wonder if there's a retro-fit or aftermarket gauge that can be installed?

Sure, you could install an aftermarket oil temp gauge easily by just replacing the drain plug. You would have to be a bit more creative with the water temp sensor, however.
