Looks like the starter is dead on my '73 tii. Im trying to decide if I want to repleace the entire starter or just the solenoid.
The starter looks fairly ok internally, but there is some surface rust and grim on the outside. But the internals look ok.
The solenoid is going to need to be replaced either way, but do I want to risk getting a new solenoid and then seeing if it works or shoulc I just suck it up and get an entire starter?

This is the starter I found. Anyone have thoughts on it, or any other?

Try the E30 M3 starter motor... it might be worth asking the question for more specifiic details at bmw2002faq . com There is not a lot of difference in price, but the unit is far more powerful.

The new remanufactured on from BMW (part # 12411269696 $170 on realOEM) is 1.1KW, and is used in E21 and E30s (M10 block). The M3 (S14 motor) starter is 1.4KW (part # 12411312130 $190 on realOEM) and bolts right on. It is smaller and does not use the 02 rear mount bracket (too short), but you can run with out it, or get the S14 support bracket to block part #12411308480 (about $10). Beaner7102

I have a working one from a '74tii model. Not sure if it's compatible or not.

Make me an offer.
