View Full Version : BMWNA petiton

To: BMW of North America
We, the undersigned, respectfully request that BMW of North America review the lineup of automobiles made available to buyers in the United States and Canada.
Currently BMW of North America does not offer any options for consumers seeking a performance oriented vehicle with an economical drivetrain. BMW AG does produce these vehicles in the form of various 4 cylinder and diesel powered models. While these models are available in almost every other market in the world, they are not available in North America.
Additionally, since 1999 BMW of North America has made no provisions for its customers that prefer a smaller, more versatile automobile. The current 3 Series Compact or the 3 door version of the upcoming 1 Series would be welcome additions to the choices available in this class of automobiles. Once again, these models are or will be available to nearly every market in the world except North America.
Please rethink your strategy for United States and Canadian sales and availability. In these times of increasing awareness of the limits of our natural resources and concerns about the environment, it would be to BMW of North America’s advantage to allow the residents of the United States and Canada to choose from the full range of BMW’s more economical models that are available to the rest of the world.
Sincerely,
The Undersigned

killcrap 07-08-2006, 07:33 PM diesels have been scarse since bmw tried launching the 524TD in the mid 80's. Which was a total disaster. But, they have been trying to release diesels in America, but there is too much sulfer in the diesel fuels for the engines. You should not petiton BMW NA, they are doing their part. You should petition the US GOV, and the OIL COMPANIES to reduce the sulfer content.

How was it a total disaster?? It was the most powerful, fastest diesel car in the world in it's day. I don't see the problem.

surferpacifc 07-26-2006, 07:17 PM The funny thing is, it was people creating a petition similar to this that helped bring the M3 to the us in 1995. I'll try to link the page I found that on.

Wojtek79 08-12-2006, 12:11 PM I always thought that the MINI was owned by BMW, and bringing the 1 series would essentially mean that BMW would compete against itself. Am I wrong?

BMW AG does own MINI. Many companies own multiple marques. GM has Chevy, Buick, Cadillac, Pontiac, GMC, Saturn, Hummer, Saab, in the US alone and they all compete with each other. I think there are BMW owners that would never own a MINI and there are MINI owners that would never own a BMW. Then there is our family, 1 MINI, 2 BMWs.

I agree, the Mini has its own market. What the 1 series would do is compete
with the Mazda 3, the new Dodge, and the other car makers that are
introducing the "mini station wagons". JMHO
