View Full Version : Full detail with pic's (friends car part 1)....(56k)
abbot555 07-04-2006, 01:51 AM My friends car needed to be detailed really bad. Black VW Jetta. We worked on the car today but did not finish, (waiting on Ups for my PC pads) so I will post the finishing pic's tomorrow I hope.
Wash, clay, wash, Medium cut polish, fine cut polish to remove any hazing, wash, Pinnacle paintwork cleaning lotion, then Klasse SG is the plan.
Got as far as polishing her hood
Here are the before pics:

Posted about this a while back, the claying got a lot of this paint transfer off and once polished I think it will look good.

This will be my first full detail so I am trying to do a good job. Will post some after pic's when I am done.
TropicalDetail 07-04-2006, 03:15 AM Goodluck...
One thing from experinece (though hopefully you will do better then me) is that VW paint is VERY hard, and I could never get all the marring out with a PC. I have always had to go to rotary to make a worth while dent in the cobwebbing. I look forward to seeing the after pictures...
Hollywood Hamilton 07-04-2006, 01:15 PM VW paint is indeed very tough wo work with, however, it does stay nice for longer than BMW/Merc paint.
awahl63 07-05-2006, 12:24 PM Oh lord...
cosmom3 07-05-2006, 02:15 PM Good luck, little elbow grease it will come out perfect :buttrock
abbot555 07-06-2006, 05:20 PM Ok, took a little longer then I thought. It was a good learning experience tho, for one I should of used a heavier cut polish to start with.
I did not get every swirl out but got most of them. I was able to get all the water spots off. Next time we do a detail on the car my goal is to get every swirl out, once I learn more on detailing. But for my first full detail I was happy with the results.
Here is the after shots, kind of a cloudy day tho:

All that paint transfer came off :D just a few scratches from that wood beam she hit. Oh and a dent.

Holy sh!t
I can't believe it's the same car, nice work!
I wish I could do that :(
Mless5 07-06-2006, 07:17 PM Very nice! Must've been a big smile on the owner's face once that white stuff disappreared?!
TropicalDetail 07-06-2006, 08:36 PM Very nice. With out a rotary, your not going to get everyswirl outta a VW's paint. I would just chaulk it up to nice work done... Very nice.
abbot555 07-07-2006, 12:51 AM Thanks all :D
techbmw 07-07-2006, 11:18 AM Awesome job! Makes all that hard work worth it, huh?
Charisma 07-07-2006, 11:33 AM Holy shit haha. That car was beattttt up.
David 07-12-2006, 08:03 PM Good stuff! If you were able to remove some of the swirls and nasty water spots with your PC, then I'm sure you will be able to tackle the rest of the blemishes with your PC as well. You just need to put in the time. Don't let anyone deter you or tell you you need a rotary.
BTW, what medium cut polish did you use? What speed? Pad? How many passes?
mikese36 07-12-2006, 08:14 PM Looks like a differant car!Good job!

Well put David. +1 on both of these
abbot555 07-13-2006, 02:58 AM BTW, what medium cut polish did you use? What speed? Pad? How many passes?
I used Meguiar's Mirror Glaze 1 medium-cut, followed by #2 fine cut polish, speed 5, got some pads off autogeek (orange pad), and did each area 3 times, 1-2 times with the fine cut polish.
AlexxxE39 07-13-2006, 03:13 AM Wow! big difference! good job and much props to you!
TropicalDetail 07-13-2006, 03:28 AM You did awesome. I'm not trying to deter you about saying anything about a rotary, but from my experince you will not be able to get the anything deeper then light swirls out of a VW's paint with anything less then a rotary. I think you did a very nice job with a PC though...
Cheers!!!
LupinIII 07-13-2006, 04:01 AM did you touch up those 2nd pics? i know you said you took it on a cloudy day but damn
venezzia 07-13-2006, 04:24 AM wow... looks great - nice job !!! : )
abbot555 07-14-2006, 01:15 AM did you touch up those 2nd pics? i know you said you took it on a cloudy day but damn
Nope no touch up's :D
jensklemp 07-16-2006, 12:53 AM holy hell, come do that to my car!! Good work!!!
Stück 07-16-2006, 09:46 AM Do you get to spend any time under the bonnet in exchange for all your hard labor?
damn son...nice job...how much you cost???
German Pride 10 07-18-2006, 02:51 PM Great results! It really just takes a solid amount of time to do it right.
The last M3 I did I booked in 14 hours total (int & ext job)
Needless to say I saved the car another year for a repaint and re-upholstering.
