Anyone done this install the Home Depot way?

I think I may just go and drop 400 on the eurosport kit just because it looks better, but if anyone has a better/quicker option, let me know.

I have an M50 manifold sitting at home... was planning to install it on my 328 a few months ago, but then decided to sell the car and get an M3. Anyway, i was thinking of going the homemade kit way. you mentioned doing it this weekend? i'll see, if i'm free, i'll probably be up for it - we can do both cars at the same time

will this pass emissions?

both will pass emissions.

I have done both installs (home depot and eurosport) The only real differences between the two I found were these.

Eurosport: proven by a company w/ somewhat of a warranty, cool guy part that you can say you have:rolleyes , some would say a "cleaner" install. not as much attention to detail as required with home depot install.

Home depot: MUCH cheaper ($349 cheaper by above post) IMHO much easier as I found the manifold with the eurosport kit much harder to reinstall due to the alum. plate sticking out from the bottom of the manifold so much. But some people worry about just rerouting vacuum lines like that and not having it proven by a company that you can fall back on if something were to happen. They both do the same thing alot of it just has to do with preference.

In the end the only visual difference when its all said and done is you might see a little bit of shiny alum. under the manifold with the eurosport kit.

My friend and I did it as you know...but we just winged it and didnt really follow any instructions haha, which resulted in CEL and Vacuum leak. Im redoing mine when i add somthing special to my car next week, im sick of my car sounding like a teapot. Home depot/ shucks way ftw! just doit right. Once you get yours in we should hit the I-90 bridge again.

dont think so, and IIRC the bolt patterns do match up so its worth a shot. (dont quote me on the bolt patterns though I have no idea why i remember that)

Ive seen it done before on your car. It was the Tuner transformation show when the transformed 328i to a m3 gtr look alike... but it was also done by evo sport and they got resources for somthing like that.

I'm waiting to install mine.

i'm going with dinan stage 5 software, euro hfm, 3.5 inch hfm and the manifold all at once with the eurosport intake kit. won't be done until another month or 2.

what kind of intake? the dinan 3.5 or are you gunna do stock box? I was going this route until the guys at Strictly convinced me otherwise... they said only doit if you get 3.5 hfm, 3.5 cai, and high flow throttle body(I have none of these)...to much cash. BMW seattle wanted $800 to remap my ecu to stage 5 from 1 and strictly wanted like $350

EDIT: nvm i thought you said eurosport adapter(not intake lol)

I bought a 'kit' (veryyyyy loose interpretation of a kit) from kms/midnight/we take your money autosports/motorsports/poorsports. It basically ended up being a Home depot kit and was actually very easy to do. I just did mine about 2 months ago.

#1 thing to make this job easier: make sure you have a universal joint. Bolt #7 is a bitch without one.

Wait, you said Euro HFM and 3.5" HFM in the same sentence...those are the same thing...:dunno

I did this the "Home Depot" way, although I didn't go to Home Depot. I followed Boris' DIY on the turbo M50 conversion, just without the turbo. Cost me $40 in parts because some of the parts are OE BMW from the dealer, but it makes the install that much easier. Now that I think about it though, Boris' says to use the Eurosport 'gasket plate' to seal the manifold to the TB, but I actually used the 'cut a gasket in half' method used in the Midnight Auto Works DIY. I guess I just did a combo of both.

http://home.comcast.net/~bob.cat/M50ManifoldInstall.htm - Parts list and instructions;
http://www.midnightautoworks.com/Installs/95intake/install.html - Instructions.

I also removed my vacuum canister and cyclone oil separator at the same time so it eliminated the need to connect about 4 vacuum lines - eveything else connected back up to the OE parts so I didn't need to do any custom fabbing of vacuum line connections/tees/whatever whatever. Keep in mind that I had already deleted my Secondary Air Pump (stupid little thing) AND had blocked off the vacuum line that goes to the butterfly exhaust valve (and disconnected the electrical on the butterfly exhaust valve) so that eliminated yet another 2 vacuum lines...

VERY happy with my top end...and will be even happier once I drop in my M3 cams and software (Hiop Race-Tec).

EDIT: Actually I used the instructions from Boris' AND the instructions from Midnight Auto Works. :thumbup:

Oh HELL yeah, that was a definite PITA.

Oh, and by the way Boris says to remove the fuel lines and do some crazy stuff with that... I only touched the fuel lines to move them off to the side and I had NO problems pulling/installing the manifolds. Get a shoelace and tie them to your hood pin and it'll hold it out of the way while you work on it. :thumbup:

Wow. OBD2 cars sure have a lot of extras.

Jesse (sp?) If I may ask, why didn't you just get an M3 from the get-go?

Forced Induction.

I found this 328i at a Honda dealership 2 years ago for about $9k (before tax). An M3 with comperable miles was about $18k. I also knew that I wanted to go FI, so having an extra .4 liters didn't matter that much. I know I've added a few M-Technic parts, but I also have a lot of things coming that DON'T come on an M3. Basically, I didn't want to spend almost twice the money for a car I knew I would tear apart and rebuild anyways. M3 cams are cheap (compared to aftermarket cams). Here's all the stuff I am replacing on the car that I would have also replaced on an M3:

Interior-
Recaro seats (rear seats re-covered to match);
New carpeting (Wilton Wool);
custom stereo and CarPC;
Re-surface door panels and dash in Leather and Carbon Fiber;

Exterior:
Custom paint;
Carbon Fiber Boser hood;

Suspension:
C/O;
RTAs;
LCAs;
RTABs;
Stabilizer bars;
Tower bars;

Driveline:
6dp conversion;
New lightweight driveline;
new rear diff and subframe;

Engine:
Secret...

j/k probably a GT35R turbo project.

So, needless to say the extra $9k would have been wasted on an M3. Just one more M3 available for someone who can appreciate it more (and not tear it apart... :D ).

Thanks for asking!
