does anybody know when the IPOD integration will be available for our new 3series???? ive been waiting forever

press release said july, i just called my dealer, they dont have it in yet, and have no idea when they are getting it

does anybody know when the IPOD integration will be available for our new 3series???? ive been waiting foreverI called my dealer today assuming it would be ready in July (according to the press release) and I wanted to get on the waiting list since it may be outsold soon.

Well, my dealer checked with the service and parts department and they have no information on future availability. There is no part number, there is nothing so far. His words were "maybe at the end of the year, check back in a few months".

So it seems this new interface is facing some delays..... It's a bummer, as I am really looking forward to it. From the video I saw, it seems to be pretty good. I just wish the screen would not say "CD1", "CD2", etc. and would say "Artist", "Genre", etc.

Any thoughts?

its available...call your dealer and give them part number 65110403650...some places may have to special order it.

The good news:
- No limitations to special playlists
- Can use stearing wheel and iDrive controls

The bad news:
- Long load times to bring up big directories (up to 1 minute)
- Only one hierarchy, e.g. list of all artists or list of all albums, but not all artists/albums
- Only 255 artists or albums listed
- Only 500 songs listed
- Scrolling through the lists is horrible with the iDrive wheel, it keeps "hanging"

That is truly awfull. I have over 30 GB of songs and almost 6000 songs... I guess I should just stick to shifting music in the ipod controller then.

I think if you organize the music intelligently wit playlists you can get to all music, but the scrolling with the iDrive wheel is the killer. i wonder who did a QA on that thing???

Plus, one it is plugged into the iPod kit, you cannot use the iPod controls... Bummer!!! I am really frustrated with the way BMW is handling their iPod efforts. Nobody knows what's going on, the website is down. Don't they understand that iPod integration these days is a deciding factor when shopping for a new car?

They're not the only ones who don't do a perfect job of it. I'm opting to just go with the AUX plug in the center console and use create good playlists.

I have previously installed an Alpine head unit with iPod integration in another car and it's not perfect but quite good: Fast selection, good hierarchy, etc. Unfortunatley you'd have to replace the factory unit and get a steering wheel control adapter and forego the iDrive integration.

My Opinion:
These are amazing cars. Drive 'em well and make good playlists.

My take is that when I buy a 50K car and pay $500 extra for an iPod kit, it better be good. No more slapping on a patch onto the old CD changer option. Come on BMW, you can do better. Who needs night vision, we need iPod integration.

Any Radio Shack or other electronics store. It's a standard cable.

I looked into having BMW integrate my IPOD and was extremely disappointed. They wanted $400.00, and I would have to leave my car at the dealer. From what I understand this is not the best inegration. I looked into the DICE kit and for $150 I was able to install it myself (very easy.) I have text display and control from my steering wheel or radio. I am extremely pleased with this product. I am a big BMW fan but can't understand why a small company like DICE can produce a better and cheaper integration solution than BMW???

You want a 3.5mm male to 3.5mm male cable. Any CompUSA, BestBuy or stereo store should have it. I went to 3 Radio Shacks and none of them had it. Radio Shack sure has gone downhill over the years. It is no longer an electronic hobby shop.

What DICE kit works for the 07 328i? I went to their website and it said that they didn't have anything available for the 07 3-series.

They should really add the iPOD integration for free with the logic7 sound system package. Paying $1000 for DSP seems like a rip off. But comboed with iPOD integration sounds like a great idea.

No DICE for the e90/92, but the BMW kit is compatible:

At this time, this is the only iPod kit available for MOST-based vehicles.

True, but what we're discussing are integration options that allow more than just volume control from the steering wheel which is all you get using the AUX input.
