I have had my Pc awhile and have done some cars and I’m getting the hang of it but I’m planning on detailing my boat I have no clue how gel coat is different than a clear on a car. Can I use the same products and same pads I have all stages of pads and I have Klasse ALL-IN-ONE Polish, poorboys sr1 & 2.5, ClearKote Red Moose Machine Glaze and for wax I have nattys blue and p21s.

The boat is 91 so the paint is kinda old and has a dull look to it and a LOT of swirl marks, does gel work differently than clear?

any thing would help

I use a boat/RV polish and wax from Rightlook.com. It's designed for gelcoats and works great.

I did a friends wave runner with what I had on hand at the time and it came out awesome. At that time I was using the Einszett products and I used them with my orange and white Lake Country pads on the PC. Not knowing anything about gelcoat I just went at it like I would anything else i.e. start with something less aggressive for his swirls and step up or down from there.

Somebody with more experience can chime in with what might be more appropriate for gelcoats.

To be honest, I'm not sure. Ive never used regular car products on gel coat before. Personally I'd rather just use a product that's designed for gel coat.

Thanks for all the help, I ended up doing the boat today. I figured I’d fork out the cash and buy some stuff just for boats by MEGUIARS and it ended up turning out damn good. I used a Mirror Glaze Heavy Duty Oxidation Remover (heavy cut) to Mirror Glaze Color Restorer (light cut) and a polish and toped it with wax.

I only got one problem; I cut with a yellow pad and the heavy cut, the color came back to life, it worked in and came off clean.

I then I step down to an orange pad with the light cut and the product worked in weird, it smeared like normal but in some places it randomly gummed up and was real thick and I tried to wipe it off it was caked on (I shook the crap out if it too) so I did the whole boat and only some places did it is was weird? About 20% of the boat did it, and the surface was smooth and the pad was not picking up any color from the boat more than normal discoloration I normally get from using a pc

It was about 98 outside but I was in the shade (garaged) and none of the other products did it. But the polished dried REALLY fast two passes and it was dusting off. Wax on wax off and she was done.

Anyone have a clue about the lighter cut product or has this happened to anyone on a boat or car? I have never seen it; it was just a bitch to deal with, I thought about taking it back

Thanks for all the help though:buttrock
