Which ones did you buy & from what company??? Depending on what headers you got because a lot such as supersprint headers definitely do require a dif. cat. to be able to bolt it up but bolting it up to your block shouldn't be hard especially on a BMW its just a matter of having the right fitting & whether you can run it on stock cat because i've seen some rumors of people buying headers from www.turnermotorsports.com & not being able to bolt it up to stock cat but goodluck with all of it. BoostInduced 06-30-2006, 05:28 AM as long as you got full length headers you will be fine. its when getting shorty headers that you have to change anything. Have fun putting those in... i know it was a tight fit just getting to the coolant drain plug for the block. and it was even on the lift. tokbandit 06-30-2006, 01:00 PM http://www.stockreco.com/Mvc-BMW2f.jpgwell here are my headers...... and wondering where they are supposed to go.....i know how these bolt up .....but was wondering with taking the factory ones out .....are there any tricks or problems i should know or something i can do to make life easier when taking them out......what tools will i need? http://www.stockreco.com/Mvc-01ffd8f.jpg any idea where those down pipes connect too? JedzE36/5 06-30-2006, 02:26 PM just a socket set, ratchet, elbow grease, and maybe a braker bar. the only problem i have had was when removing the stock header. the bolts were frozen because of all of the heat that they experience. i think i even had to get one of those sockets that rip out the nut (on the Sentra i was working on). our of curiosity and just by looking at the pics, are those just chromed S52 headers? martialartsblac 06-30-2006, 02:52 PM i have the excat same headers, but have yet to install them. id like anyones tips as well dblmikeusa1 06-30-2006, 03:59 PM :rofl... First you need a lot of patience! Next, invest in 1/4 and 3/8 u-joints (swivels) or whatever you call them You should have extensions from 3"-12" and /or multiple lengths (trust me) I believe they are 11mm nuts, so have 1/4 and 3/8 in that size also. I used anti-sieze on the reinstall, so I would not cross thread the studs. I have removed my headers twice, since being on. It gets easier after the first try... I invested about 10 hours on the first install, the second one was done in three hours... With the headers you have, be prepared to visit a muffler shop for welds, I have an identical set... I will do it/help for a small fee... :) PS... I torqued from the center to the outer to ensure I got a good gasket seal. martialartsblac 06-30-2006, 04:44 PM perfect. wel thanks for the tips. next weekends gonna be a B1tch BoostInduced 06-30-2006, 07:50 PM the down pipes just link the shorty headers to the mid pipe on your car. Full length headers are best for keeping low end torque. When you get these on, let me know about your power gains and losses. Good Luck with the install dblmikeusa1 06-30-2006, 10:12 PM the down pipes just link the shorty headers to the mid pipe on your car. Full length headers are best for keeping low end torque. When you get these on, let me know about your power gains and losses. Good Luck with the install After installing mine, the sharp rise in torque went away. It feels more constant. You can definitely tell there was a hp increase by the speed thru the gears. I personally have not dynoed my car yet, so I cannot tell you numbers. I am still waiting on a few more mods before I take it to the machine. I will us the moded numbers comparing them to the stock to determine my gains... stay tuned... weaksauce 07-01-2006, 10:06 AM those should actually help the OBDI cars since they are S52 headers. Right? JedzE36/5 07-01-2006, 01:34 PM those should actually help the OBDI cars since they are S52 headers. Right? that was what i was thinking. i was about to jump on these until i looked at the design and realized, hey... those are exactly like mine but shiny. hehe good upgrade for OBDI cars though. tokbandit 07-01-2006, 05:09 PM I have decided to wait and get a borla cat back then just drop the whole exhaust and do it at one time.......oh has anyone made there own home heat shield for their intake??? cause i need to make one i dont want to buy a brand new intake.....well for now anyways... dblmikeusa1 07-01-2006, 09:42 PM I did not put a heat shield on mine. I relocated wires and have not had any problems. If there were to be problems, I would have had them right away. jmitro 07-03-2006, 11:41 PM I installed OBDII headers on my 325 track car, just had to plug both O2 sensor ports and had the mating surface welded to close up the gaps. it is a bitch getting the headers out and back in. the space is very limited and you can't even see the bolts. the second time around, i used an air ratchet, which reduced my time from 3 days to about 2 hours. it's still a bitch, though. see the link in my signature to see a few photos. |
