I've read all the posts from searching Brake Dust and most of them were from 2003 and i was wondering if there have been any new products or methods out there?

My wheels look like ass when i'm finished washing them!? They have little black dots all over them and the wheel seems to look brown from close up. I was wondering if there is anything new out there to help with this and what everyone else uses to fix this on their wheels??

Clay Bar?

Abrasive Polish?

Wheel Cleaner?

Or something else?

Thanks,
Matt

BMW has made a mag wheel cleaner for at least 20 years that is nothing short of great! It breaks down the caked on areas and leave it with a nice shine. At your local BMW dealer, this cleaner can be had for under $10 (I beleive).

The other thing you can do is use an S-o-S pad but be the judge for yourself. Make sure the steel wool is not abrasive enough to scratch the wheel.

Detailing Acid, 75/25% mix, spray it on and pressure wash it off! Wonders.

Becareful trying to use anything overly acidic. I also would not use any sort of SOS pad (nor plain steel wool).

For a very dirty painted wheel, I would clean with Eagle One All Wheel and Tire, followed by a claybar, paint polish if needed, and a quality sealant.

Well it depends. Are the black dots concave or convex? If they are sticking up, then ^

but if they are down into the wheel paint then there's nothing you can do that I know of. On my wheels, the previous owner left the brake dust on too long and it actually ate into the clearcoat so there's hundreds of divets.

I recently used some 3m abrasive compound on my DSII's to get the caked on brake dust off. It worked really well, but be prepared to work for it. Also, your fingers are going to kill you after your done.
