White clay is easier to work with as you can see when to get a new piece.

Wash your car before clay barring it...
Make sure you use plenty of the spray.
If you run out...
Make your own...I think it's 1 OZ or car wash soap per 15 oz of water...
I assume that you got the Meguiar's one because it's white haha...

Just use lots of lube and do not press the clay while gliding it over the paint. Yi should be fine then.

For more information clay, see the following:

if you want to go crazy on it, polish it first and then wax it to seal in the shine:redspot

If you got a big piece, cut it up into a couple individual pieces (smaller for safety incase you drop the piece of clay). That is because it's 'recommended' to throw away an ENTIRE piece of clay (Gimmick to steal your money?) upon dropping it on the ground.

Use the lube that comes with the kit, or a quick-detailer, or a homebrew'd solution with car shampoo. (the latter may not be too good for the clay, as many have experienced 'drying out' of the clay)
