Savage,

Check your fuel filters first. Are they clean, been replaced recently? Second, look for vacuum lines that have come unplugged from the carb, manifold and distributor.

And on a more personal note to us old people on the board helping you, I realize your a young guy and all, but you would make a better impression on us if you just spelled out your sentences into english like you would talk on the phone to one of us instead of this abbreviated chat talk BS.

So, please suck it up - and help me still believe -- that as part of the privilige of owning a cool car like a 2002 -- there is a deserving person your age that I would be happy to point out to somebody older who also enjoys 2002s. I don't think anybody here doesn't believe the baseline of the owners are a bunch of uneducated morons, but when you write a post like you did, thats how it comes off.

Maybe it's my age but I still believe the idea that a good education, in schools, life or what you learn here about your cars is a good thing. You should learn to respect the intellect of people older than you who want to help you. You would be surprised how far you might get.

How did the poor kids question about his dying 02 turn into a lecture on grammar? Give him a break, he got the idea across. Just give him the advice he asked for and leave it at that.

Haha, alright I respect that and all.
I chat alot online so it's natural too me.
But I don't think you should judge a kid just because of his internet lingo.
Ive seen plenty of smart kids in at my high skool just make mistakes in essays they write, saying things like idk and wtf.

Expecially in my freshmen year. Most graduated with A's this year.

lol...none of this is on topic so i'll add my snippet....

conscience people don't pick their nose or ass in public....unless someone (who cares enough to make an honest remark) points out an annoyance or rude action, would one know how to fix it?

Your right Esty, when we were in SCHOOL our teachers wouldn't have promoted us to the next grade with an ability to spell incorrectly.:hacker

English is my 3rd language and I do make mistakes on a regular basis. I remember in my high school years we were graded somewhat differently, unlike the North American schools, whrere most post secondary or secondary institutions draw some sort of precentage on how many mistakes get made VS total number of words. In my case, three mistakes would get me a C- in any class written essay.
Lets not forget that language is such a huge part of our identity. It's worth to keep it clean and unmolested, in the long run at least.

It's not about the mistakes though, it's how I talk...
and i dont care what you guys think about me. If you dont want to help me, fine.

Maybe if you actually MET me . . you would see what type of person I am... o_O'

Hey Savage76, I bet you're a good kid - no one is saying anything about you as a person. (As a young person who opted for an '02 - you get good marks straight away!)

I saw your post before any responses and thought I'd get my 17 y.o to read it. He understood it (smiling as he read it, especially about the car shitting itself), but commented that an ancient like me (46 yo), whilst aware of most of the online lingo out there, would find it much harder work to get to the issue you have straight up, without translating it.

Keith is a bit of a legend in the 02 fraternity for the online resources he has made available for free to the lucky owners of these fine little cars - I guess what he is saying is it would be nice if folks who are happy to help you (like him) could figure out your problem without being challenged by the way the info is communicated - a bit of help/respect to the helper as it were.

That's me as the peacemaker today ... hope it didn't sound like a sermon.

Savage - you need to read over the posts carefully - and understand we're all helping you - and not picking on you at all - definately including myself.

We're actually just coaching you a bit since you're an 02 owner so please take that seriously.

As part of the group here we do want to help you and reminding you to make your questions clear and crisp for the benefit of people all over the world who read this board.

While your problem may seem unique to you, in California, it's really not and eventually somebody in another country, say Argentina who has a 2002 (there are many there) who has the same problem you did with your car can read this thread and solve their problem because it was yours too.

I've owned 02s now for going on seven years and like helping others who helped me in the beginning much in the same way you're starting out here.

I hope that's not to much to ask and that next time, you would just take your time with your questions in the future for the benefit of everyone. All of us would rather see you on the road and happy with you car than doing what this guy is doing :mechstuck

Zambo... Ancient? watch it there, you and I are the same age at least for a few more days !!!

Your response was spot on... and well put. However that "legend" part you said up there about me was way off... You have to die off to be a legend don't you? :D

I could have said "guru" - would that have made you happy (or cringe as it does me!). OK - so I can get over the "after death" status of the phrase by saying legendary - like a legend, but still breathing!

As to your approaching birthday, I'll catch up to you in age in August, and then we'll be even again!

Cheers

Richard

What about the problem itself? Any ideas on this.

Savage give us more info. Sound like fuel/ignition problem, should be easy to solve.

Oh Look, I see Mister Happy popped again. OOOoops... He's not contributed or posted anything to solving poor Savage's car problem but you're good at editorializing :bash

Meanwhile, Young Savage has not been back to us with his update. We're waiting to find out, the balls in his court.

Back on topic: I've got an idea what your problem might be... Gas pedal linkage. Your problem started when you had it floored, right. Then when you got off the gas, it seemed to idle too low. You compensate by running with your choke on to bring up the idle speed.

Check the gas pedal linkage under the car. The gas pedal connects into a linkage where there's a clamp on a shaft. My bet is that when you had it full on, you caused the shaft to slip in the clamp (reached limit of the linkage). If your linkage originally had tension there, enough to factor into your idle speed, then I'm guessing now it doesn't -- thus the too-low idle. (Is your gas pedal perhaps sitting a bit lower/depressed as well - that's a clue).

Happened to me - frustrated me to no end until I solved it. Loosening up the clamp and realigning the shaft rotation position fixed it.

If this ain't it - check other places in your throttle linkage... As other's have said, it could also be carb adjustment or ignition too.

HTH!

Guys, guys, guys ...

I think it's better if we try and fix Savage76's issues rather than have shots at each other (and I referring to everyone getting a little twisted here at the moment) - we're all into the cars, so may I suggest we stick to the problem the young dude has and let things cool off a little on the personal front/s - and boy do I regret using the words "guru" and "legend" - no more superlatives from me in future except relating to the cars! :D

You conveniently edited out my part of the post to you where I said, on topic, "Meanwhile, Young Savage has not been back to us with his update. We're waiting to find out, the balls in his court."

He's getting plenty of feedback from me and others on his car and Savage has answered back. Last time I checked, thats the way this board has always worked.

And it took you 3 posts to tell all of us FINALLY you didn't have anything to contribute to HIS problem. You could have said that in your first post but you just had to take a stab at me? Well it's time to raise the flag on you.

:bs

We all have passions and obviously 2002s are one of mine. I like helping people with their 02s, especially young people with our cars. It's not an unreasonable request in written communication to have people be clear about what they want when they want some help. If there's no limit to the space here to write a question or an answer, why not use it to your advantage?

In the ongoing quest to solve Savage's problem, I think Visionaut has scored the correct recommendation until we hear more input from Savage.

This thread makes me realize why I like this board so much. Thank you all for having an intelligent argument rather than letting it become infantile like so many other boards I have seen in my day. I am 100% serious, thanks again!
