View Full Version : Euro 745i... does it have the turbo M30?
flyeryan 06-27-2006, 01:17 PM Just curious if this car has the M30 engine with a turbo. I thought I remember reading that somewhere, but I'm not sure. If so, how much more powere does the turbo version put out? Would it be worth buying a cheapo 745 and then scavenging the turbo, manifold, etc?
thanks.
Mr Project 06-27-2006, 01:50 PM Yes, it does have basically a turbo M30, called either the M102 or M104 depending on the version, IIRC. Yes, many people have used the parts to turbo a 'normal' M30. Personally I think by the time you replace the weak spots of the 745i turbo setup, you'd be better off building your own setup or buying stuff from TCD. But the 745i is a really neat car, I'd love to have one some day.
There's actually a whole forum dedicated to this car and the turbo swaps that have resulted:

flyeryan 06-27-2006, 01:53 PM Thanks a lot for the info. There's a 745i turbo on craigslist for cheap, and it got me thinking :devillook
Cereal Killa 06-27-2006, 06:17 PM Best idea is use the m106 engine, motronic e23 745i with a turbo. The m106 oil squirters in the block, and the head on it is alot better suited then the stock m30 head. The m106 head has a larger valves, i think, along with a better suited cam for a turbo.
323I Junkie 06-28-2006, 01:20 AM some people make crazy numbers with those, like 450...

sorry to revive this thread - but M102, 104, 106 ? how can I tell the difference - years?

M102 is up to mid '83
M106 is mid '83+
Also the m106 has a larger displacement. 3.2 in the 102 vs 3.4 for the m106.
Also the info I said was wrong. The valves just have a different coaing to resist heat better, the cams are the same.
RedTRex 02-20-2007, 03:15 PM Thank you sir!
