View Full Version : Drove a Z4MCoupe today...
Kevlar 06-26-2006, 10:59 PM Drove a Z4MCoupe today... car feels great. Seating position is very low... felt like I was dragging my ass on the ground. Steering is very good and power is really smooth. My only let down was the throttle response... wow, talk about delayed. Maybe I'm used to my M3 with the upgraded software but it feels just slow.
The salesman and I went into my car afterward and said that in comparison it felt very slow to react.
Anyway... car drove great, the power-to-weight difference is clearly evident when trying to power out of a corner. :devillook:
Roffle Waffle 06-27-2006, 08:33 AM odd, on the z4 3.0 with sport, the throttle response is like my old m44 with ltw flywheel
The HACK 06-27-2006, 08:50 AM I have to say, my experience with the Z4 M Roadster was similar. Nasty lag. I had to blip the throttle a little before taking off in 1st.
Nothing I can't get used to though, and the sport mode alleviates it a little.

Was sport mode button on?
themadhatter 06-27-2006, 12:40 PM I love the new mcoupe, very slick styling and the price is pretty decent compared to other offerings available to the consumer.
Kevin, are you looking to pick one up or was the test drive just for kicks?
IslandS62 06-27-2006, 05:21 PM Do these have a factory sport mode button, or does it have to be enabled via a modification like the old Z3 MCoupe?
I wiould echo the comments to turn on the sport mode (if there is one) to improve throttle response. Its night and day.
Ollie 06-27-2006, 05:22 PM yeah was the sport mode on?

The sport button is there on the console above the shifter, same as DSC. I wasn't able to drive the car, only sit in it so I'll have to wait until August when my car is shipped.

Thanks! I've had my '99 M3 since new so I'm due...frankly the M Coupe is the first car I've been excited over that I can afford since my E36 so I'm very pumped about the new car.:redspot
Kevlar 06-27-2006, 08:28 PM I didn't put the sport mode on... I've found that driving in sport mode in the M3 is best reserved for wide open spaces (of which I had none for this drive). However, I do believe, that even with sport mode off... throttle response should not have been that dull.
A Z4M Coupe could definitely be in my future... especially will the likely hood of my brakes and wheels being able to move from the M3 to the Z4M. Driving that car will take some getting used to tho. It's nothing like driving the M3.

Second that...i drove a new coupe as well, and I love it and all, but its so different than my M3, that i was concerned about switching...we will see tho.
It's nothing like driving the M3.
Would you please elaborate?
defex 07-06-2006, 02:58 PM I'll elaborate.. it's better. The power to weight ratio is better, the stiffness in the body and other parts of the suspension is better, the braking is better, the feedback is better.. What's not to like? It's all improved. And yes that sports button does make a huge difference in all new BMW's. When all the tracion and stability and launch controls are on it BOGS down the launches 100 fold.

Can you tell me what this means? I've seen this printed so many time, I finally thought I'd ask.

Power, 330 hp, to weight, 3200 lbs, ratio on the MZ4 Coupe is 0.103125 HP/lbs.
Power, 333 hp, to weight, 3400 lbs, ratio on the E46 M3 is 0.097941 HP/lbs.

In other words, each horsepower from the engine has 9.7 lbs to carry in the MZ4 and 10.2 lbs to carry in the M3
SleepRM3 07-07-2006, 08:27 PM In other words, each horsepower from the engine has 9.7 lbs to carry in the MZ4 and 10.2 lbs to carry in the M3Pretty close numbers though. I'd still take the Z4MC b/c it's more focused on sports driving than the E46 M3 Coupe.
shark92651 07-10-2006, 01:48 PM The styling on the Z4 coupe I really like - I cannot say the same for the roadster, however. I still prefer my Z3 to the Z4 roadie.
