View Full Version : Not a good day for the E30 :( 56k warning

Well the e30 didn't have a good day today. I was heading to the dealership to pick up some parts and had just gotten off 75 at the East brainerd exit. I was sitting at the light waiting to turn left onto Hickory Valley When the Two Men and a truck moving truck in front of me started rolling backwards. I hit the horn, and released the brake to allow the car to roll. But he kept rolling, the Bar under the left gate ended up hitting the car above the bumper. The visible damage is the Hood, Passenger Fender, Both headlight grills, Kidney grill, Both high beams, Pasenger headlight wiper assembly, Valance, and some damage to the core support(hood won't open and I can see bent metal where the headlights mount). I've got an estimate from Action Ent. and they rang it up at $2400 in damage which only includes replacing the Euro headlights, grills etc... with U.S. spec parts(there computers don't have the Euro items). The driver of the truck called his manage and he came right over, and told me just to get an estimate and more then likely they'll just right me a check as the deductable on there insurance is high. The Police didn't hand out any tickets but made some coment about the excessive toe angles on my car(what does that have to do with an accident when I was sitting still:mad ). Oh well I'm going to call them in the morning and try to get $3000 as I'll more then likely have to get a rental car, and the estimate is low if the car is brought back to where it was before the accident(which it should be). Any ways here are a lot of pics..........

Thanks every one. Josh I was actualy thinking some shade of blue. Depending on what I get, I'm probally going to focus on the engine first(it's on it's last leg). And then see what I can do about the paint work, I may just throw Sealed beams and U.S. spec stuff back on it for the mean while, and try to find a hood and fender(both places I got estimates from thought they could be straightened back out so who knows).

Sorry to hear that, I was just at the dealer yesterday as well. I have to go back to pick up some parts, but I was trying to limit the amount I was on the roads in the rain. Hopefully I get my car pack from action by the end of the week so I can put on my exhaust and fix my shifter. Do you know what it would cost to replace with the euro parts?

What euro parts are you wanting to replace?

Josh K

rs4pro3
06-28-2006, 08:49 AM
Luckily this happened earlier in the day before the rain.
To Replace the Euro lights, Grills, etc(items damaged) would be $1400 more then double the cost to replace with the U.S. conterparts. I spent about $500 for the used parts to do the headlights, grills, wipers, etc...
I finally got ahold of Two Men this morning, told them the intial estimate and he told me to come in and the owner would take care of it. I'm going to throw in the extra cost of the Euro parts, and a rental care for 5 days while the car "gets fixed". So I think $3000 is fair, but we'll see what they say.

Ely, M fenders and front and rear bumpers would look great on your car. I think it would look even better withOUT the M rear spolier as well. I like the spoilers, but it looks HAWT without it. Makes the rear look alot more "Ass-y"? Bootylicious? Ass-tastic? Any of those words will do:)

ya but at $250 plus the added labor to make them fit I'd rather have proper fitting m3 fenders. I've done some more pricing of the engine rebuild and more then likely I'll just have enough for paint, and not any fancy body mods.

cerealkiller93
06-30-2006, 11:19 AM
i dont think you heard me correctly...
i said, make them out of a fiberglass. its easy. all we need is an M3, something to make a mold with, and a shit load of wax paper, fiberglass resin, fiber glass hardener, fiberglass, and a sh*t ton of a sand paper.

take wax paper and cover one side of it, use plaster of paris to make a mold around it. and i think you can figure the rest out.

Well, the car was considered totaled so they were only willing to give me blue book value of the car. I could of possibly fought it, but 75% of the mods I don't have receits etc.. for. Plus I realy didn't want to go threw the hassle of fighting them, and who knows how long that would take. So in the end we settled on me getting a check for $1500, the car, and the title is still nice and clear for the car. I only paid $1500 for the car a year ago(which i thought was to much for the condition it was in at that point in time) so in the end it's not that bad. I already have picked up a fender and bumper filler strip and just have to find a hood to throw the car back together. I've yanked the damaged parts and started straighting some of the metal on the core support that was damaged

Nice paint work! No match = FTL. I think you should just go ahead and get a really nice paint job done in Alpine. Alpine just looks so good on these cars.

I don't realy like Alpine, if I had the money Josh believe Me I'd have the whole car repainted.

The weird thing is the paint is the same color I used to paint the front valance and filler strip a year ago, and they matched pretty good. They were smaller panels so maybe it was harder to notice the mismatch.

how to loosen over torqued bolts...

1) Grab telephone
2) call friend on steroids
3) tell him to come help
4) give friend on steroids breaker bar
5) tell friend to break bolts loose
6) friend breaks bolts loose
7) finish up.

Well I stopped back by the autoparts place and found a more yellow white. It's a better match, not perfect but I think if I just have the rest of the car buffed out it will be ok(Josh?;) )

no not to hold the pulley, it's for removing the 32mm nut on the fanclutch. I ussualy just use a screwdriver to hold the pulley.

Looks good for what you said you spent on it so far. And who cars if the paint matchs when you are on the track. The odds are that everyone will get some other paint on their car at the track.

I am still working on my exhaust. I still have four bolts on my manifold, but I broke one off, and then the guys on here told me to just cut them off, so I cut one off. The rest came loose after 2 solid days of saking in liquid wrench. The thing that sucks is that my bolts were tack welded in place from the top

well, I just got back from driving my car with the System U on it for the first time, and I love it. I sounds like pure sex. I rode up into the Ocoee which was not to bad since most of the busses were headed down. I saw all the Evo's that were up at the gap today driving back though cleveland. I can not wait to finish the little odds and ends and hit the mountains again

to big, and to hard to find a manual tranny. I've had some fun moments working on my mom's 740. Changing out the fuel lines at the back left of the engine bay is no fun, there is only 1 inch of space to get a screwdriver and your hands into.
