well im looking @ the 540is a 97+ one and i plan on possibly doing a supercharger or something along the line...
my whole life so far all ive had were turbo AWD eclipses/talons galant vr4s etc. im going more luxury and still would like a bit of power to play with.

ive looked into audi S4s (to small to fit people in the back) looked into an A6 2.7T but cant really find one i like i did but it was 22 grand and wouldnt leave me with anything to spend on upgrades and stuff.
so the other day i went down to milwaukee (there is no used bmws audis or anything in my town for sale) test drove a mercedes c230 that was a major dog. test drove a 325 or 328 or something like that... 5 speed 01 was decent.. then went to another dealership and test drove a 530i that was so nice lots of room but only had the 6 in it.. then i went and test drove a 540i that was perfect... but i know ill want it to be a lil quicker later on.


so now im stuck on a 540i can find them for under 15 grand pretty easily around milwaukee/chicago area. but how strong are the autos compared to a 6 speed? there is alot of both for sale around. will a auto trans handle a supercharger without a problem?

The autos can barely hold the stock power/torque. The only way you can handle FI is if you had the transmission "built" by Level 10 or someone similar, or had a manual to begin with. Swaps are extremely difficult to pull off because of the extreme amount of electronics swapping involved. Shops, if they will do it, often rate it a 10k job.

Not a supercharger. There are many auto Dinan 540s, however. A Dinan trans chip will help the shifting a lot.

alright.. cause right after i buy the car im getting that dinan setup. i think id probably be happy with that....
