View Full Version : There's this 2 year old that I babysit on the weekends....
Sephiroth619 06-24-2006, 07:19 PM She goes into my room and decides to just stomp the living shiet out of one of my Dynaudio 5.75" mids. :(
There's a huge dent in the cone now.
Question, will there be a sound difference between a regular and a dented cone one?
el.duderino 06-24-2006, 07:44 PM Yes, but I don't know if it will be audible.
Can you pull it back with duct tape?
How about the kids parents re-imburse you?

seems like a plan to me.

Absolutely. Cone shape is critical for dispersion and frequency response. Are those poly cone mids? If they have a pole vent try popping it out with a screw-driver through the pole vent (careful not to punch through the cone). If that does not work you can try a vacuum cleaner or a suction cup of some sort to suck the cone back out.
I have used the screw-driver and suction cup method before and have heard of success with the vacuum -- good luck. If all else fails I think that you deserve reimbursement.
Daved 06-24-2006, 10:43 PM Yeah, make the parents pay for it.
mbanks21 06-24-2006, 11:25 PM Why werent you watching this 2 year old? And why were your speakers on the floor?
Mister X 06-25-2006, 04:10 AM I don't mean to sound like an asshole, but I don't think the parents should be held liable.
Just use a piece of tape to pull it out, not a huge deal, and when you're done with that, run down to home depot and get a lock for your door.

why do you say that?
Sephiroth619 06-25-2006, 11:56 PM I'm just gonna hang onto the Dyn and see if I can use it for future purposes. I'm gonna run DLS Iridiums now replacing the Dyns.

Because when the child was placed under his care, responsibiliity for keeping it out of trouble shifts over to him.
325iKatcha 06-26-2006, 08:44 AM rules #1 to babysitting a 2 yearold..
Never let the lil SOB out of your sight.

+1 I agree.
mbanks21 06-26-2006, 07:22 PM Theres no way the parents are responsible. Thats like saying "I was watching the kid break all my china and steal my car and kill 4 hookers. The parents should pay for it" YOU were supposed to be watching him
325iKatcha 06-27-2006, 10:27 AM I think if I was the parent I would be concerned that the kid was able to get out of sight long enuff to do such a thing..
but I think i'd still offer to pay for it... I'd expect you to turn down the repayment and i'd counter offer with paying for half and you'd accept that...
JPWheelr 06-27-2006, 11:21 AM It doesn't matter. In this case HE is the father. Loc, you get every weekend now?

Yep, been babysitting her for almost a year now.
Guys, I accept full responsibility over the situation. As some of you stated, I should've been watching her even if it meant the milliseconds of losing her to find her in my room.
