quick question.....im in the process of installing a car computer and ive decided to run the sound through the stock amp in my e36. I found a wiring diagram and connected my speaker jack on my computer to the front right and left wires that come from the head unit to the amp. Keep in mind I completely removed the head unit and I am just running the stock amp however for some reason I can not get any sound out of the speakers. The amp has power and I know the remote wire is working correctly so the amp is on however there is no audio coming out of it. What is wrong with my setup?

The OEM headunit has speaker level power to the factoey amp, the speaker output of your computer is pre-amp level, so it does not have enough voltage feed the amplifier audio signal.

You can spend money on a line driver (you'll need one that'll make an 8+ volt output), or omit the factory amp and replace with an aftermarket one and crossover networks for the speakers.

I think I have a 2 channel or 4 channel amp somewhere around the house. Can I connect the computer to the amp and then to the factory amp? Would that work?

Be very careful.

If you push too much power into it, you'll smoke it.

I'd highly recommend against this.
