Tape stuck in cassette deck and will not eject or play. Keep getting TAPE ERROR message on LCD display. Anyone have any idea on how to remove stuck tapes or remove the whole cassette player from the dash?

I have the same question but for a E34...

two flaps on the side of the radio.

takes a 5 sided tool. Lots of (wrong) people shove an allen key in, it works (poorly, once)

Both of your cars are the same in this effect.

Actually, with the newer E38's, there aren't just the 2mm allen screws holding the unit in.

If the unit doesn't have Navigation, you'll remove the volume control knob by pulling it outward toward you.

Once removed, you'll need a Torx T8 driver to slide down into the small hole on the bottom side of the hole.

Turn the Torx driver 1/4 turn counter clockwise, and the OBC will free itself up from the driver side, and you'll want to pull outward with the Torx driver still in the hole. Unplug the OBC.

There will be two Allen 2mm bolts holding the top part of the unit in. Simply loosen these all the way, and the upper portion containing the cassette mechanism can be removed now.

If the car has navigation, leave it alone. Take it somewhere to have them remove the cassette. :)
