Don't laugh, but what about the Chevrolet Corvette C6 Coupe with Z51 performance package for $46K; it's no slouch with bonestock 400 hp/lb.ft on tap.

Any thoughts in even considering America's ground-pounding C6 Vette Coupe as serious competition to BMW's Z4 M Coupe?

I'd consider the Chevy, but my wife will NOT allow a Corvette in our garage...so the Bimmer's the choice--but 400 hp beckons LOL :)

My Brother in Law has a Z06 2006 vintage.
He luvs the raw power & the suprisingly sublime handling.

He traded out of a 2002 Porsche Turbo & hasn't regret it.

Sometimes you want the car as a simpler package he said.

I mean, can you even fathom 500+ hp on the track on street-freaking tires LOL :)

If I wasn't predisposed to wanting BMWs I would probably buy the Corvette instead.

Unfortunately for me, BMW parts and BMW service comes cheaper (I would service it, of course), I like the Z4 Coupe shape and design better, and frankly, having come from an E46 and a Z4 the Z4 M coupe is simply more familiar.

That and the fact that I can get a sweet @ss deal on the BMW doesn't hurt either. But yeah, I would look long and hard at the 'Vette and probably would buy it if I was 1)white and 2)in my mid 40s and 3)wife about to divorce me. :D

I'm just full of stereotypical hate today.

Are you planning to keep it for any more than 3 years? If so, you will definitely appreciate the build quality of the Bimmer...Corvette performance is an unbeatable value, but after 3 years, the GM "lack of quality" starts to rear it's ugly head in the form of rattles, etc...

If it's JUST performance then the vette would be better, as long as you're talking about straightline acceleration and top speed.

Overall handling though might go to the M Coupe.

Styling, resale, etc. are important too...

Take it from someone thats worked on both Corvettes and BMW's that we saw far fewer major problems with C5 and C6 Corvettes then I have with BMW.

Now I personally think that Corvettes are pretty much junk....except for the C6. Now dont get me wrong, the Z4M Coupe is my DREAM car but I personally dragged my dad to the dealership and MADE him testdrive the C6.

As much as I dont like Chevys the C6 is an unbelieveable machine and if your in the market for a sports car you should atleast check it out.

As a brand, GM has had fewer warranty claims per car than BMW for the last several years, according to surveys by JD Power.
