My wife, God bless her, got me a Craftsman Buffer/Polisher for Father's Day. (I can't link, but if you go to sears.com and search in "Tools" for item "10723" you'll find it).

She got the message that I was wanting a polisher, but I don't think I ever made clear that I was looking for a specific PC. She gets a A+ for effort, though.

Anyway - it's a random orbital with just one speed. Is this ok? Or is the variable speed PC absolutely essential to doing the job right?

It'll be fine for waxing, but I doubt it will do much in the way of swirl removal. I hate to say it, but if she wouldn't kill you it'd probably be better in the long run to return it and save up for a PC+pads.

Thanks for the comments, guys. Luckily I don't have any swirl marks to contend with (and hopefully I won't create any with it), so I think I'll keep it and use it for waxing.

Thanks.
