Okay, so I got new(used) interior. Ready to swap out on Saturday. Found rusty floor beneath rug in driver's foot well. Common? Does it matter at this time? Oh well. So I called a few body shops where I've got friends. They all suggest to patch with sheet metal--stitch weld and seam seal--paint and undercoat. Sounds reasonable. I just want to make it good for the next owner as I don't intend to keep it very long. Here's the dilemma; rust is across the seam between the floor and firewall and above the frame channel too. Also the throttle pedal base restraint will probably have to go. Suggestions?? Help?? Get a gun???

Thanks,

George

Yeah well um, Por 15 is pointless at this point, so...

What they told you is what you need to do. Cut out the old sheet, and grind all the rust away. Make some templates with cardboard, and replace with sheet metal. Easy fix. Just seal it up after and paint it.

So "you" replaced the floorboards with Por 15?

"right" :evil2 I wish i could have used that stuff...

I replaced both floorboards as mine where completely shot...

I cut out both of my floor boards to the outer rockers, and replaced them with ones that out of a wrecked 320i. I could not find floorboards, and this was Before the internet...

Get a gun and put the horse out of its misery. Consider another body or weld the crap out of it.

Welcome to the same boat I'm in. I've got half of my drivers floorboard cut out right now, waitin on me to finish welding in patch panels. Its the only way to do it right. IMO

I heard Maximillian can get the aftermarket floorboards.
W&N used to carry them as well.

I had lots and lots of rust to remove in the floorboards.
Some diphead inspector put a jack right threw the floor board,
and I put roof flashing and liquid nails over the hole, back in the day.:mad :mad

Thanks, everyone. Looks like I'm off to the local metal shop for some sheet steel then to the local Por 15 distributor. Again, thanks!

I say cut out the whole floor and weld in steel gratting. You'll always have a cool breaze and if you spill your coffee, its will just drain right out!
