we are looking into opening a BMW & Mini service/tuning facility here in Abu Dhabi. I am wondering if anybody has any experience with these diagnostic tools. which one is better? thanks

i've used the gt1 and found it incredibly straight forward and easy to use.


never heard of the DISplus. i've seen the modec, but never actually got to operate one. it didn't look too hard, but not as simple as the GT1 (but again, i only got to watch, not operate the modec)

There's a HUGE review of OBDII diagnostic tools in the latest Roundel... not sure if you've seen it, but there are some insanely cool toys in it, including the GT1 and DISplus.

GT1 is, like, God or something. I know it's the _only_ thing that can do certain things on E46+ cars...

btw, i'm like SOOOOOOOOOOOO far from being a BMW tech; so my experience with those machines is from just a normal car nut using them... and the GT1 was amazingly easy.

the gt1 can be used wireless,take it with you on road test,less bulky while the displus is a complete station both have the same functions in them. I would perfer the gt1 over the displus

and DisPlus is pretty much a dated system. We are being told by BMW that the new diagnostic tool will be a regular wireless laptop with the capability to do all the functions needed. Maybe you'll be able to pick up a GT1 for cheap soon. ;-)

GT-1's are pretty helpful, but at $37,000 the price is kinda steep. The scanner i use does everything the Current GT-1 does except Test Plans, and Coding and Programming. And its affordable for every DIY guy out there. Comes with 20 Pin and 16 Pin All you need is a Laptop with Serial Port, or USB to Serial(FTDI). Contact me for more info. killcrap@msn.com
