i have an e46 and i only have one key. any idea how much a new one is and how i can get one? call the dealer i guess

I think you have to have the registration and ID when ordering a new key. And yes, has to be done through the dealer.

The regular key, no remote, runs about $45

You can only get it thru the dealer and they have to get it from BMW NA (NJ I believe)

Get one now when you don't need it because if you lose the only one you have you could be without your car for a few days.

what you should do is get key insurance and pay a premium for a year, which would be much cheaper that paying the garage for a repro key. i had 1 key when i bought me car. got the insurance and claimed my keys to be lost. they reprogrammed 2 brand new keys for a total cost of £40
