Well after a long ordeal, I finally got it fixed. Read thread here if you want

Below is post #25 from above thread.
Ok, it's a couple weeks later and I FINALLY got it fixed. I went to a Do-It-Yourself upholstery shop and bought a couple different size zip fasteners and the first time I tried the one size it worked like a charm. The zip end on the top was all buggered up from trying so many times so I didn't even try to go the right way around the top (counter clockwise when looking at the window from the back). Instead I started going backwards and when it actually started to fasten there was no way in hell I was gonna undo it and try the correct way. So, before I zipped it all the way around I got out my needle and thread and sewed the ends together so they couldn't start to come undone. When I zipped it all the way around back to the beginning I had a bit more trouble. Because I was going the wrong direction, the fastener wouldn't slip under where the ends overlap. So, I got out my dremel tool and cut off the loop that holds the flipper/handle/grip thing on the fastener. Now the fastener was thin enough to slip through and I got it to slide off. I was in the process of pushing the pronged clamp through the fabric when it slipped and opened up the zipper about 2". No way was I going to start this all over again so I got out the thread and needle again and sewed up that two inches as best I could. I then popped in 3 prong clamps and backing plates that I had ordered extra. NO WAY is that zipper coming undone now. I sealed up the 2" where is isn't fully zipped with some black automotive RTV and then put the sealing tape on and slipped the fabric flap under the rubbery window piping all around the window. It looks like brand new now.

HOLY HELL what a freaking frustrating project that was and should have only taken a half hour. All I gotta say is that BMW does not impress me too much so far. Yeah the car is a blast to drive, but the quality is no where near what I expected from them. From the sticky 5th gear shifter to the worthless seat bushings (change those myself with homemade ones from Acetal) to the rear differential/sub frame problem, to this window problem which was clearly BMW OEM parts Fuck Up in not supplying the correct zip fastener......TWICE!!!
Christ!! What's gonna go wrong when I try to change my oil for the first time??? ....it's coming up very soon here...stay tuned !!!
