Do you have $9k to spend on repairs after you buy it?
If not, don't bother.

With these cars, if your looking for a bargain then you will spend double if not more on bringing the car up to snuff. Ask me how I know? You get what you pay for when it comes to this car.

I am guessing English is your second language.
The 850 was $80k plus in 1991. Although you can buy one now for 1/10 of that price, it is still a car that cost $80k plus and the parts are extremely expensive. It was BMW's technological flagship. After 182k miles, things break down. 850s are about the most expensive modern BMW you can own and have all kinds of problems waiting for you, from the DMEs to the electrical to the HVAC, etc. . . ..
Many people like yourself have bought cheap 850s and lost their shirts on repairs. Expect $5k minimum to bring this car back to health, and with the weak BMW automatic transmission failure is likely given the mileage if it is an original, which is going to be several thousand more.
Many people don't understand that if you can afford to spend $9000 on a new car you can't necessarily afford to spend $9000 on a used car, particularly a 15-year old, $80k BMW.

If someone is willing to let go of an 8 series for that price you best believe you are not getting a bargain. this car will have issues that will need money. I just replace my auto trans on my 850 2 months ago. at a cost of $3500. my car has 90K miles. I purchased it from a BMW dealer 2 years ago for 18K. I can tell you and I have proof from all my recipts that I have spent more then 17K to bring my 8 to where it is now. Good luck.
