Even so called trusted shops have been caught doing the same. The owner/head mechanic might be a top notch guy but he cant over see every person who might not have the same ethics. People are lazy and given that they are paid on a work done scale, they will cut corners. BMW Dealers have done this, I have marked parts that were supposedly replaced only to find the same part on my car afterwards. Global comes to mind. It pays to do some checking regardless of where you get serviced. A friend changed his oil, I told him to write the date on his filter. He had his car serviced at a local shop only to find the same filter on the car nearly 2 years later. They also supposedly changed the timing belt on his 88 325i only for it to break 10k miles later. Needless to say, they replaced the head for free. Walking in with the orginal belt and the dated oil filter helped. Mike Yellow2 06-03-2006, 06:41 PM Sorry to say, this has been the case for many places of business. Anyone with a salary pay at Iffy Lube or the like would do anything to get out of work only 30 minutes earlier. Even if it means your car dosent get a new oil filter. I deffinitly reccomend somehow tagging the parts being replaced before you bring them to the repair shop. If you are getting something major taken care of, ask them to keep the origional parts removed. They tried this BS on my sisters Camry when she was getting new suspension parts and could not provide the parts removed from the work done. Needless to say we got all $1k worth fo work for free including labor.:buttrock M3Alpine99 06-04-2006, 07:49 PM ghey kenny.. got busted again adeelpowers 06-04-2006, 11:33 PM :rofl at the district manager |
