Just shoot the hooch! Great for beginners. Local. No need for a guide!

Ok....

go to the Ocoee

That river is really fun!

I second the Ocoee, although it's not what it used to be. It's still a fun place to go rafting. If all you want is a lazy ride down a river getting drunk the whole way you can't beat the 'hooch!

Why does it have to be white water? Racism.

no we dont want the lazy ride...we want some rapids and some excitement (maybe class 2 or 3?)...just not too rough.
we dont have any equipment so we have to go thru some sort of company that provides those...and the females on the trip wants a guide (one of them cant swim).

i found this (http://www.nacoocheevillage.com/) <http:>. doesnt seem too far...but just cant find any info about wildwood outfitters. anyone here been here before or heard of wildwood outfitters?

edit: just found out that this is the chatahooche river near helen, ga. will this be a slow lazy raft or offer some rapids and such?

It is a little too late in the year, but early in the spring Section IV of the Chattooga (http://www.southeasternexpeditions.com/Chattooga%20River.html) is probably the best within an easy drive. It is completely runoff, so if it has been dry, like we have seen over the past tow months, the water levels will be low and not as much fun.

The Ocoee (http://www.southeasternexpeditions.com/Ocoee%20River.html) used to be pretty predictable as it is a dam(n) release river. Some fun stuff, but I have not been there in over 10 years so they may have reduced the flow.

I would avoid the Nantahala (http://www.noc.com/) Just not much flow there.

Regarding outfitters, NOC and Southeastern Expiditions are both good folks, but I prefer the Southeastern guides.

My recommendation, if you want a trip to remember for the rest of your life, is to take a small 5 person boat down the Upper Gauley (http://www.gauley-river-rafting.com/). My friend Hobbit, who guides all over the world, claims this as his favorite river in our hemisphere. They only run water down it for +/- 23 days a year but the water is 100% predictable and 100% wild.

Ocoee is the only way to go. It is only an 1 1/2 hour drive depending on what side of ATL you are on. I would also second Southeastern as the guides to use. I have some friends that work there and that is the only group that I will go with, and I am a local. I can be there in about 15 minutes and drive those roads during the week for fun.
