I have the stock head unit (I think it's made by HK or Alpine) and the volume knob is not responding properly - I have to turn it many times before it actually increases or decreases the volume. I've noticed that if I pull or push it slightly while turning, it works better. I remember seeing other threads regarding this problem... but searching is disabled, and I don't remember seeing any fixes in those threads anyway.
Is there a fix for this? It seems stupid to buy a whole new head unit just because of a volume knob...

cheaper to get another used one.
That radio is plagued with problems:
Bad power supply
bad volume knob
FM goes out
display goes out

The factory radio in my wife's Maxima has the exact same problem with the volume knob---I have to spin it real fast to get it to respond. Or we can simply use the steering wheel controls all the time.
But the radio reception is also getting poor (according to my wife). Is it possible that whatever is messing up the volume control is also messing up the reception? We can live with a bad control, but she needs the FM reception. So, in other words, would replacing the radio fix the reception? I hate to invest in a new radio if it is something simple like a loose antenna or possibly a diversity amplifier.
Any ideas??

often it can help. What I've noticed / been told with the BMW ones is that there is a solder joint that breaks somehow on the fm side of things... Check with Ken (el.duderino)
On a more important note: I've never seen you ask a question before, much less threadjack. has your account been compromised?

Sorry, but my account was not compromised. And I actually thought I was on the same train of thought here...
So sorry about the threadjack, I suppose :)
BTW, I do ask a few questions on the bimmer forums, but usually not this car audio one. And typically I get no responses, so Thank You for trying!

There's that hurt five year old response I always expect from you. It really is you!!!
This board as a whole is really more into the whole OT and trash talking thing than being progressive and helpful. WTF happened to the search function?!?
Seriously though, I would call or PM Ken. He may have a used takeout from a car he did, or a device or two to clean things up.
No harm intended. Have a good weekend dude.
