Hello everyone.
A few weeks ago, I took the 540 in for an oil change. (I know, I know, I've been busy.) About a week after that, the car starts hemmoraging oil. I'm talking about a 1ft puddle under the car in about 30 seconds. So, I plan to take it in somewhere, but before I go anywhere, I decide to top off the oil, since it is probably low, right?
Wrong! After leaking like that, the dipstick still read the oil was waaaay overfilled. (like 1/2" on the dipstick) So now I am pissed because United has made me blow some gaskets. Based on the loaction of the leak, it looked like the rear crank seal. (oh, goodie. I love removing automatic transmissions.) So I take it in and explain what happened, showed them the dipstick (which was still reading overfilled after driving there and hemmoraging more oil when I got there) and they figured it was the valve cover gaskets. Fine. They replace the valve cover gaskets and some other things, charge me for the other things, admonish me for using Royal Purple trans fluid, and I am on my way.
I am back in two days, as it is leaking again, and the oil is overfull again! I drop the car off yet again, and get a call from them saying the rear crank seal failed due to age. Bull! That seal was less than a year old, and I shop them the records supporting this. Then my service rep starts waffling and saying it was improperly installed, saying they aren't going to cover the repair. He goes back to the GM, and they decide to fix my car at their expense, since the GM saw pretty quick it was their fault.
So I am glad United has done the right thing, but it really shouldn't have been an issue in the first place.
