Those were the first words said on the air when the radio station first signed on (long before TV was added to the outfit). But eons ago, the radio call letters were originally assigned to a ship. That ship sank. So, the calls were assigned to another ship. And then IT sank too! :eyecrazy

So, the people who decided such matters back then figured they would avoid the hassles of superstitious sailors who wouldn't want those letters on their boats, and assigned them to a land-based radio station instead.


So far, the radio station has not sunk.

However, if you listen online to their streaming audio, they have this "web guy" who comes on during the breaks. Sometimes, he answers questions that are sent to him, and the origin of the call letters was one of the ones I remember him talking about.

It was rather ironic at the time, bcause the city of ATL was dealing with a rash of sinkholes downtown. He made a joke about the possibility that thanks to the crap infrastructure of Atlanta, the station might actually be able to sink into the earth after all. :rofl
