Also, if you want to maintain the image dimension you could use the clone stamp instead of cropping it.

Why do you crop the top of the image?

Why do you crop the top of the image?

because when you move the new layer down, the old background is still in place. Let me see if I can upload something to show you what I mean.

Ok check this out. Look at the part in the yellow box espicially by the roof of the house. It is replicated and out of place. Thats why you need to crop it or use the clone stamp (the clone stamp isn't recommended for beginners).

Why does it not do the same thing at the bottom of the new layer?

because you're only messing with the upper part

Why does it not do the same thing at the bottom of the new layer?

most of the time it will, but its less noticable because usually the ground is all one shade. if it isn't I blend it also.

Actually you don't even have to clone it cause sometimes you can just erase the top part but only sometimes. I would clone it but I don't usually feel like doing that so I crop it off.

if you have pshop CS2 you can heal the empty part with out having the duplicated look that the stamp tool gives you...CS2 ftw, its sick

are you guys like graphic designers or something, because i have cs2 but dont know where to start. I have watched the tutorial video and its just like someone is speaking to me in another language. Is all of this self taught if so how long does it take to master it. Or even to just photoshop my car without asking someone else to do it?

You just have to have fun with it I took a class in HS but didn't get good at it till I got Photoshop and started playing around with it here and there.

Look for tutorials and follow them they help alot.

how do you just select the top half of the picture with the shell of the car? do you have to select along the out side and top edges too?

just takes time...Sit down and just mess with things until you get a feel for it. Thats how we all learn. Tutorials and such wont help until you get the basics down. And the best way to get the basics is just do it. Your not going to hurt the program. You can always just opt NOT to save the image you play with....Plus make sure you play around a lot with layering. Thats where the magic comes in!

I would also suggest using the pen tool to make selections, it's alot more precise than using the lasso.

Just my two cents.

this is a case where software piracy is bad, anyone and their grandparents can pick up cs2 for free and then not know how to use it

search google for 'photoshop tutorial' and do as many as you can fit into your schedule, the non-car related ones are the ones that will help you the most, it will give you a real-use for that 'huge' box of tools and that 'insane' list of filters

How do you duplicate the selected area...its not working for me...

neocloud
01-19-2007, 02:53 PM
CTRL C, then CTRL V, it will make a new layer with your copied pixels

Or you can select the area(lasso or retangle..whatever you use to select the area) then you use the move tool and hold down alt and just drag it...That will duplicate it, but it wont be on a seperate layer.

I like the copy paste method better. I use 1000s of layers on most of my custom work. I like to be able to see different things and patterns and just click the view icon on the layers table to see what works and what doesnt.

I am attaching a pic of the tool just in case you dont know which one it is! its marked in red....

he forgot to tell you HOW to drop the car... After you duplicate the image, just pull the new layer image down a little bit...using the same tool i have in red up there

^^^^^

THEN crop the top of the pic...
