got the Conforti chip and went to the dealer today for the Dinan tranny, noticed the tech pulled one of the modules from the engine bay, install the chip and the computer didn't see it after testing, assumed it was a bad chip and put stock back in...
where is the tranny chip located on this vehicle? prod. date 02/94...
(I was under the impression it was in the module in the trunk by the right battery as I also read in one post)...
I would much appreciate some clarification on this by a fellow member...thanks....

Mine is in the front box with the DME/ecu
And so were all of the several other 840s that I have seen.
Front computer is the Transmission computer -German name about 8 sylables long that doesn't translate.
Second computer is the DME unit with the engine chip.
The location in the trunk on the fenderwell has what I believe is the Cruise Control module. And the back of the CD player rack is empty.
Did you get a "Trans Prog" error after turning on the ignition? If not the chip was ok.
The chip may not register on the tester because it is just changed shift points in what I presume is an otherwise standard BMW chip.
Love the 7000 rpm shifts in my 840:)

I didn't get to see the test results, I was told the chip wasn't comunicating or responding,I read some posts where the tranny module was in the trunk(possibly 850s) thus my confusion...the service guy said they would get back to me with more info on the chip tomorrow.
I will ask them about that error tomorrow...Do you have en engine chip also? Dinan or Conforti?
thanks again.

I have a Dinan engine chip in the drawer of my tool box.
I have a Wokke_2000 chip in the engiine computer. Night and day in favor of the Wokke chip. Even emissions friendly:) I was at 10% of the allowed Oregon emissions with 143,000 miles on an original Nicasil engine.
The only thing Dinan in my 840 is the transmission chip.

I did read on wokke but in the end ordered a Conforti from TMS,was hoping for some dividends today with both chips but something had to fail, at least I'm glad it wasn't the 840...let's see what BMW tells me tomorrow...
