E36 M3's are notorious for faulty RSM's. The stock ones were rubber, and become extremely brittle over time. With hard driving, you run the risk of the stock RSM breaking, therefore allowing your rear shock to push through.

Highly recommended to replace as preventice maintenance.

schussey

aftermarket RSM's are reinforced, whereas the OEM's are basic rubber (i beleive)

aftermarket:

dont buy OEM as you will have to replace them again... and again... especially if you lower your car and use stiffer shocks. the aluminum ones (rogue, JTDesign, bimmerworld, GC, etc.) last practically forever (well at least however long you want to own the car) and some have warranties (i think). The previous vendor's price is not bad at all!

OEM = big waste of time

Do the upgrade, check it off your "To Do" list, and
never worry about them again.

$20 - $ 38 pair aftermarket OEM replacement + labor
$52 - $ 60 pair OEM stealer (see above) + labor
$80 - $125 pair quality upgrades + labor = peace of mind

For some reason the RSMs on the E30s (even when using the cab ones) keep breaking but E36 and E46 seems fine.

Meyle has an upgraded one that BavAuto sells that is only a little more than OEM which looks like it should last a lot longer.

But I'm still in for a set.

why is there a list for OEM RSM???
Isn't this for upgraded RSM thread and GB?

Think about it..you go OEM.. in the long run it's going to be cheaper to upgrade the RSM to a Rongue Engineering RSM than stock OEM RSM..as you WILL NEED to replace anyways if you upgrade suspension.

Err.. I want one of the beefy Rogue or Turner or Ground Control ones, not the OEM ones.

aren't e46 RSMs much more thicker than stock e36 RSMs? so they should be able to hold up, right?

btw i already upgraded my suspension(tokico shocks).

can someone clarify....?

For anyone running aftermarket suspension I would suggest getting aftermarket mounts. Can someone post a pic or tell me the purpose of the Z3 plates?

the E46 ones a a bit thicker but they are still rubber and will tear again eventually. this all depends on your suspension, driving habits, etc. lowering the car just decreases the life because the stiffer suspension will vibrate the mount even more. you can go a little more cheaper and get the rubber RSMs that have a little metal piece in it but they will still brake. even if you have 140k on the car it is still an investment. thats experience talking. it is for piece of mind.

i just got a pm from an admin. can't do group buys until they get approved. i'll do some more research and create a new thread if I can host an OEM shock mount group buy.

Yea E46's RSM BETTER be thicker than E36's

E46's car weight is much heavier...it goes to say..

I still dont see a point in getting OEMs...Sorry

Upgraded RSM(Rongue Engineering)
For the win!
