For the first one it is fine, but for future chops may I suggest 3/4 view shots instead of side profiles? I'm not new to photoshop competitions and I have found that 3/4ths shots yield better results...just a suggestion though. ;)

Yeah I think you got the right idea. The image should be simple enough to get people interested in joining and get more traffic here in this section. If we get enough entries for this one, then a 3/4 shot would be great.:)

You don't have to crop it...just shrink the image. Everything is still intact, the image is just resized.

That sounds fine. I just thought of having a limit to help the dial-up users when viewing the entries. 800px MAX either way works:)

haha.. I'm not sure what to do with the image. As "easy" as it seems, I'm not sure what else to do besides changing the wheels, lowering it and maybe change the color of the car. Yeah...I was having that problem at first too...

I think it would be a lot easier to try a 3/4 angle as long as you are comfortable with transforming layers...just seems like there would be more depth to the image...

Some great chops so far. I would try and tweak it even more but i already spent more time than necessary on it. Pretty subtle but i think it turned out alright. (Ingredients: Lorinser SL55 side panel, MCrazy's Wheels, Random e36 widebody, GT500 front lip, a little smudge here a little blur there.)

Have you guys thought about the details on VOTING.

Here are some basic Rules and Guidelines. Add to this if you guys think of more.
1. Voting is open to everyone.
2. Voting for yourself is not allowed, nor is the creation of new members to vote for yourself.
3. Vote for the entry, not the artist.
4. When you post your votes, please add some constructive comments. We all can learn from this I'm sure.


Do you guys wanna do a simple POLL and have everyone just vote through that? Or do you guys wanna try out a POINT SYSTEM.

This is how it works:

1. Everyone who wants to vote will pick and post their top 4 entries (they cannot vote for themselves). Then the 10 points will be distributed as follows..

1st place gets 4 points
2nd place gets 3 points
3rd place gets 2 points
4th place gets 1 point

Then at the end of the voting date, all the points will be added and everyone that entered will be ranked according to the highest points garnered.

We will have a separate thread that will show the Contest Leader Board.
In this thread, we will have 3 separte sections.

Contest #1 Leader- shows the rankings from the most recent contest.
Overall Points Leader - shows the rankings from TOTAL points garnered from all contest entered.
Average Points Leader - shows the ranking of AVERAGE points garnered for every contest entered. This last section helps those who did not/cannot join every contest.

Then at the end of the year, we'll tally all and have the BFC CHOP SHOP "Artist of the Year" awarded for both the Overall Points Leader and Average Point Leader:stickoutt

I agree. Unfortunately, a contest like this has the potential to be a popularity contest real quick.

I strongly suggest that whoever organizes the next contest DOES NOT enter. This could lead to an unfair environment. For example, the organizer could choose a favorable car to work on, or one they have already been working on even before the contest (What if they had their chop done for months?). I trust Mr.X and highly doubt he would have done this, however I believe it is a precaution we must take for the next contest.

Also, I like the idea of anonymous entries. We all know Mr.X and Jon Sibal are gods, but we wouldn't want people just voting because of popular names.

1. 5 days for voting I think will be good- no more than 7. What do you guys think?

2. In regards to who gets to organize the next contest, I say let's go with one person to always organize it but have them responsible to contact the moderators to be the one to choose the next image for the contest. This way, the layout of the contest will always be the same and the image will be dependent on what the moderators decisions.

3. In terms of prizes, I like the idea of sponsored sessions. I don't think it will conflict with the point system. We can even convince BFC to have a real prize for the BFC CHOPSHOP Artist of the year from some of the Board sponsors.

4. Lastly, regarding keeping the entries anonymous, I am for its idea of what it will prevent. The only problem I have with it is that it we don't have our copyrights on our own work. This is important the higher the quality of entries become. You don't want someone stealing your images and using it for commercial purposes without any form of compensation. This is why we need to have a copyright sign of some sort in all our entries as a form of security when it comes doen to legal stuff.... just my .02 cents here.

I do wish that there's a good solution to this but I can't think of any at the moment.

I guess a Universal Watermark is better than none.

If everyone agrees on the universal watermark, we can possibly use something like this that will need to be affixed on every entry- either by the HOST (the person who receives all the entries) or the artist themselves.

We need to figure out who this HOST will be. They CANNOT enter the competition since they will see all the entries and might have a better chance against everyone. I'm thinking who ever wins 1st place gets to be the HOST for the next contest. This way, no one can be 1st place in two straight weeks. If they are not available, 2nd place will have to be the HOST but both the 1st and 2nd place cannot enter the contest they are hosting. What do you guys think of this.

The HOST's responsiblities are:

1. They will start the thread for the contest and also be responsible to contact a Moderator to CLOSE the thread after the deadline.
2. They will be the one to receive all the entries.
3. For the entries without the universal watermark, or they were not affixed properly, they are responsible to affix it to all entries that needs it.
4. They are responsible to start a Voting thread, which includes the Rules and Regulations of Voting, and have a moderator close it also.
5. Since they are NOT elligible to enter the contest that they are hosting, they can be responsible to choose the image for the contest.

The universal watermark rule will need to be implemented on the next contest for those who already had emailed their entry. Unless you all want to resend all our entry to Kevin with the Universal watermark to make it anonymous now for VOTING.
