View Full Version : co-sign V-power from shell
TheRide 05-21-2006, 10:52 PM man my car feels like feels great. not only does it pick up well from any RPM, the shifting is not as rough as it used to be..especially from 2 to 3rd.
I was a dedicated amoco/Bp user for years.
sumtin wong. i use sunoco and ghetto gas and i can't feel the difference.
killcrap 05-22-2006, 02:21 PM shell is the perferred fuel for BMW's
Goat128 05-22-2006, 02:50 PM shell is good but the likelihood that you would notice a difference is pretty low. you might notice decresed performance on bargain cheap gas (i wonder if the cheap stuff would also cause decreased fuel filter life - i wouldnt be suprised if it did).
I often use shell but theres lots of other good ones too.
John 540i6 05-23-2006, 11:11 AM i made a post about V-power in my 540 a while back. It made my car run MUCH better. I have tried other gas since then and the car goes back to its old ways. I dont know what it is but when i would use BP, quick trip, race track gas, the car wouldnt run smooth and i would get about 18mpg. I put shell 93 in my car and now im averaging 20mpg and the car runs much better/smoother. My constant is racing my friends civic hatch/b18c. When we would race before he would beat me by about a car length when my car was running rough with QT gas in it. I put shell v power in it and my car beat his car by half a car to 100mph and pulls him hard at 100+mph
VaE39 05-23-2006, 11:24 AM Your 540 was gettin beat by a car length by a Civic w/ a b18? Did he do anything else to the civic besides dropped motor
TwoWheelJay 05-23-2006, 12:40 PM john, b18c1 or c5? Vae39 your prolly thinkin b18b1 which is 135 hp from the integras and such. The c1 and c5 were the motors from the 93+gsr and type R. about 195 hp each. A civic with a c5 is a pretty quick machine.
TheSparo 05-23-2006, 01:14 PM gas won't make the shifts any different... regardless of the gear... gas doesn't get anywhere near the gears in a tranny (or shouldn't be at least )
may be in your head a little
Goat128 05-23-2006, 01:36 PM shell v power has twice the amount of detergents, so it helps clean things but the reason why most dont put that much is probably because theyre afraid it could damage seals, etc. Use regular gas + 2 bottles of techron once or twice a year and get better results. IMO.
Htownmobaudio 05-23-2006, 01:48 PM shell gas does make ure car run smoother .. but its not worth it for me cuz i gun it too much w/shell gas ore chevron gas .. it does make a difference .. try this ... run your car w/shell vs cheap gas w/gas treatment in it .... it will run the same
its amazing what marketing can do.
MMmmmpower 05-23-2006, 02:22 PM V-Power is all i use in my car and i love it
franka 05-23-2006, 05:03 PM Forget the gas brand and do a resonator delete. You'll p/u at least 47 hp at the steering wheel and 29 feet of torque.
joyfret 05-23-2006, 06:32 PM I've heard of resonator delete for sound purposes,
but 47 hp increase and 29 ft of torque? OMG, is this true?
can anyone tell me if this is ok in Calif? I mean no problem with
emission law or sumthin'?

details man!! details!! :D
TheSparo 05-23-2006, 08:15 PM i guess i was the only one who caught the sarcasm in that?

Ah, TheSparo reads carefully.
"47 hp at the steering wheel due to the resonator delete" was no small clue.
In general a lot of crap passes for fact in these forums. And not just this forum or this subject.
I confess, I was just having a little fun.

TheRide 05-23-2006, 10:31 PM how can anyone say otherwise what i have experienced first hand? I was a BP user for years. I would never even use mobile. i tried shell and i am getting better pick up and better power. plus it shifts better.
oliascobra 05-23-2006, 11:22 PM Shell uses no ethanol in their fuel.
VaE39 05-23-2006, 11:24 PM Well the ones near my place have big signs on all the pumps that say "contains 10% ethanol"

In Wisconsin, Shell advertises "Contains NO Ethanol" and they are about the only one. Their V-Power is also 93 octane here.
VaE39 05-24-2006, 10:04 AM Man I've only found one station that doesnt contain ethanol. V-Power is also 93 in Virginia Beach.

again, not trying to knock you, but gas will not make your car shift smoother, unless you had some type of missfire, or god help you detonation, which wouldn't just help in the shifts either anyway, i just think it's all in your head...
what enticed you to all of the sudden try shell? was it because you read that someone else said it will make your car run better? you may call me a skeptic, but i am just realistic :cool
Jackcat559 05-24-2006, 02:41 PM ok, ok I second the whole Shell Gas thing. I used Exxon for years because they were convenient. I recently switched to Shell ( part of TopTeir ) and I noticed a big difference. Hands Down No Matter What An Improvement!!!!
I just started using this stuff in my car a little while ago.... I'd like to say I notice a difference, but I can't say that it's not in my head either... Feels a little peppier but it might just be my twitchy right foot.

yes. because i read that thread. it is what it is so i wont go back and forth.
John 540i6 05-30-2006, 10:25 PM john, b18c1 or c5? Vae39 your prolly thinkin b18b1 which is 135 hp from the integras and such. The c1 and c5 were the motors from the 93+gsr and type R. about 195 hp each. A civic with a c5 is a pretty quick machine.
his car is a 94 civic cx with no front bumper, 13" steelys, b18c1 out of a 98 dc2 integra GSR. For mods it has an intake, header, and exhaust. GSR tranny. The car is pretty quick for what it is, plus the driver is all of 140lbs.
Here is a vid of his car vs my old mr2 turbo. My mr2 was dead even with an e39 M5.
