View Full Version : The Gas Prices Suck

I filled up my gas tank today and it made me mad. $48.05! :mad

I haven't completely filled my tank to the brim in a long, long time. I usually just buy it $10 at a time because I don't want to buy it until I'm using it. The last record I remember was breaking $30 on a single fill. Now I'm almost to $50 for a tank? :mad

This is why I bought a motorcycle. The car sits around, the bike gets 50 MPG on regular, and costs $9 to fill up.

Oddly, gas prices were lower in DE at the beaches than up here? This suprised me. Is it because beaches are closer to sea ports where gas comes in?

Odd that oil is dropping per barrel but the pump prices are not. Oh what. Nothing odd about it at all.

It has in some areas, Last month fuel in Mass was 3.05 for 87 octane and this past weekend it was 2.75 so it has gone done. We in the greater DC are being ripped off as always.

The higher gas prices are just what America needed. Too many people wasting gas and increasing the demand. It was bound to happen. It will help persuade companies to research alternative fuel sources more seriously too.

A wise man once told me, "The ONLY way you can get people to change their habits is by charging them money". :buttrock

Its over 3.30 for premium around here. Definitely sucks. Cost me $51 coming back from VA beach yesterday, and this was north of richmond.

Interesting read: http://www.wilmingtonstar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060510/ZNYT01/605100340/1002/business

Stephen... gas prices dont drop as fast as they rise, because gas station owners have to buy gas for future purchases. They dont want to lose money so the price goes up fast. When it comes down, if they purchased stock later they end up with expensive gas when other stations start to drop, etc. They gotta milk it so they maximize profits.

As far as the oil companies setting the prices, that's another story.

How about another "dont buy gas on _____" email. HAHA

Really though.. with the high prices, people SHOULD use less and it'll be better in the future with everyone driving around in Honda Fits. Ive already cancelled quite a number of events for this year :(

^Nice bike Ben. So how fast have you had it up too? Did you ever ride before this bike? Is the bike to powerful for you or what? Im interested in beggining to ride soon and just wondering what your take on your bike is.

The SV is a bike that won't overwhelm a beginner but you won't grow out of either. They're great commuting bikes stock and with some suspension upgrades they are track favorites as well. It's my first bike. Not too powerful - with it's 650cc V-twin you don't have to string it out to get power like you do on the 600c 4-cylinder supersports - but you can still do a 12.0-second 1/4-mile. I've gone about 85 mph on the highway.

Those bikes are AWESOME. Nothing quite like an early SV650 - cheap, light, quick and fun.

Sounds pretty good. I may look into this when I go ahead and decide to pick up a bike. How much did it cost if you dont mind me asking?

$2750. 01 SV650 with 10,500 miles. I am the third owner. Good condition with a few mods. Also had to throw down about $300 for tax/tags/title/notaries, $500 for a year of insurance, and $500 for riding gear.

Thats not a bad price at all. Everything you tell me is making me want one more and more. Did you get an extremely good deal on that one or do they usually sell for around that price?
