hey everybody, I really need some help.I have a 99 m3. I have just installed the rouge engineering ltw flywheel and rouge sprung hub clutch its (Carbon/Kelvar), and the OEM pressure plate, and replaced the pilot bearing and the throw out bearing. I have probably put a total of 2000-3000 miles on it already.

Ok so this only happens when the car is warmed up. As I engage it into first gear i hear a squealing noise. In any other gear when I upshift i don't hear the squeal. But when i downshift without rev matching i can hear it squeal very distinctly. When i depress the clutch i don't hear any noise at all, its only on the easing of engagement, and down shifting without rev matching ( i normally rev match but one day i didn't and i heard the noise). And no its not the tires spinning either for sure.

My driving style is basically only easing it into first gear and the reverse gear and i never ease it in any higher then 1200-1500 rpms so i do not glaze the disk, every other gear i do not slip the clutch at all. Please any help is appreciated :) .

Edit: Ok i made some videos i have two videos for you the first one is one me starting in first gear and in reverse, the second time around i was saying that in reverse it was engaging around 1000rpms, and in first gear it was engaging around 1100 rpms.

The second video is of me doing a 3rd gear to 2nd gear downshift without revmatching you can hear it very well, you can hear it squeal when i had put it in reverse and at the end of the the parking deck when i was starting in first gear. and you can hear my flywheel chatter :(

!!!! Ok so my voice isn't too clear, before i uploaded it to streetfire it sounded fine. basically all im saying is "reverse gear engage at 1000rpms and first gear engage at 1100rpms in the first video and second video I am saying "im going to do a 3rd gear to 2'nd gear downshift"

I've got the same thing going on, only happens when I slip the clutch really hard. I figured it's a bad pilot bearing, or a messed up transmission. Hopefully just the pilot bearing...

I didn't have the problem at all for the first 4000 miles of my clutch/flywheel's lives. Dunno what the deal is. Next time I go to the drag strip, I'm gonna see if my 60' goes down. If it does, and feels like the clutch, it's all getting replaced, and I'm replacing my Fidanza's friction surface.

I am barley slipping the clutch engaging and im engaging around 1000rpms to 1200 rpms, in the video is how i engage the clutch. I've also heard that i may have glazed the clutch disk a little bit or there is a sleeve that the throw out bearing goes over that needs to be replaced...has anyone else heard of those two problems causing noises like that :help :(

I didn't think you could glaze a carbon/kevlar clutch. I always thought the hotter carbon clutches get, the stronger they get. Did you reuse the stock pressure plate, or was it a new OEM one? Maybe the pressure plate is bad, or you have a faulty throwout bearing. It's hard to say, and I couldn't hear the squealing in the video. Ya know, my friend has a multi-plate carbon/carbon clutch in his car and it squeals like crazy, but apparently it's normal with that clutch, so perhaps that's just a trait of carbon clutches. I'm no expert, but it's something you might consider looking into.

Its a brand new OEM pressure plate, New throw out bearing, and maybe a pilot bearing...i didn't bring a pilot bearing to the shop, but i asked them to replace it with a new one. I brought all my parts for them to install, so I'm kinda worried that maybe they forgot to put in a new pilot bearing. Apparently if you glaze a carbon/kevlar clutch its useless, thats what i have heard, but ill look more into that :)

A bad pilot bearing will make noise when the pedal is depressed only. It becomes louder when you're at a stop with the vehicle in gear, pedal depressed, and engine revving. If it's a throwout bearing, it will only make noise while the pedal is being depressed.

I don't know anything about carbon/kevlar clutches, but my friend and I actually had a discussion about carbon/carbon clutches the night before I first read this thread which is why it caught my eye. He was telling me that when it's cold outside and he's on the highway, if he tries to accelerate while in 5th gear, the clutch will slip, then as it heats up, it will gradually begin to grab. Once it's fully heated up, it grabs and holds like crazy. Anyway, let me know what you find out.

And here is the problem with running carbon brakes on the street....

Anyone who runs carbon brakes on the street deserves what they have coming to them. Hopefully they don't take anyone else out in the process of achieving that Darwin Award.
