View Full Version : Suspension
EuroBeem 05-11-2006, 02:26 AM Is anyone interested to get a group buy set up for a suspension either coil overs or shocks and springs thatll be under $800?
If so post that you are interested and hopefully there will be a vender interested in dealing with us :buttrock
97CosmosM3 05-11-2006, 02:42 AM would def be interested if priced in that range.
VNG704 05-11-2006, 02:51 AM lets see.. set of shocks for around 550 and springs for around 200 or less... that's under 800 already isn't it..? so why would you need a group buy discount? that is what group buys are for right? ... correct me if i'm wrong...
jonjon0nline 05-11-2006, 03:16 AM What springs are $200?
POS VETT 05-11-2006, 09:14 AM A decent, matched spring-damper set coilover (not just a "kit" ala Ground Control or Krautboi-eBay sleeves/springs) for under $800 will be tough. I just scored one of the last new-old-stock Eibach Pro-Street coilovers for $740 shipped and this is not even a true coilover
If you are only interested in mix-and-match springs and dampers, just go to Shox.com, they have Koni Sport and B&G/Eibach/H&R springs combo ranging from $765 to $825. IMO, a nice GB should price combos of Koni Sport/Bilstein Sport with B&G/Eibach/H&R springs for under $700.
If you could swing it I would be all over a Tein Basic C/O kit for an E36 M3.
POS Vett: I was looking at that kit, why do you say it isn't a true C/O kit? How do you like it?
EuroBeem 05-11-2006, 11:48 AM ok then how bout we try and get venders for a group buy for suspension 700 or under....
devm635csi 05-11-2006, 12:13 PM I'd be interested in either a Koni/H&R combo or H&R coils...
stylzs 05-11-2006, 12:55 PM i'll be interested in the bekker coilover 4 way ajustable suspension

Well, my definition of true coilover is one that has these capabilities:
- Height adjustability w/o changing spring pre-load
- Damper separate rebound and compression adjustabilities
- Spring pre-load
- Additional features such as caster/camber plates and pillowball mounts
The Eibach Pro-Street (at least the one I bought) is missing the first two. Changing ride height means changing spring pre-load, so its height is adjustable to a point. The dampers (struts/shocks) are not adjustable. I have not installed this yet (they just came 3 days ago) so I can't say how they make the car handle/ride, etc. The only thing I hope for is that since both the springs and the dampers come together, they are a matched set.
Don't get me wrong, I know what I'm getting into and the coilover fits my bill just fine. I wouldn't miss the damper adjustability and once the car has been corner-scaled, the ride height will quite unlikely to be altered again. Besides, this is just my daily driver/winter beater, no need for a true coilover.
EuroBeem 05-11-2006, 06:22 PM if no vendors are interested im just going to go for the H&R sports with bilstein shocks....dont need such a huge drop since im getting 18x8 in wheels soon.....

Changing the pre-load when making height adjustments is pretty odd IMO...takes away most of the allure of a C/O kit. I guess once you have it set, like you said, you can pretty much leave it. What are the spring rates on these...did you have a choice and can you buy diff. rates from Eibach??

Changing pre-load when making height adjustment is not odd, especially if you are trying to raise the ride height and the springs are already "preloaded". It's rather common. Just look at GC kits. I'm not sure about the spring rates on Eibach Pro-Street. I read them sometime ago but I don't remember them anymore. As you may have known, the Pro-street rear springs are in the form of the stock ones, they look like a "beehive". The fronts, however, use the "standard" form of 2.5" ID, block-ended springs aka Eibach Race Springs (ERS). While replacements for the fronts are plenty (in all different brands, lengths and rates), the rears may not be as easy.
Thanks for the clarification on the pre-load, for some reason I had it in my mind that the shock dampening was what we were talking about (I have to learn to read better :) ). If you get a chance PM me when you get these installed, I'd like to know your impressions----I too am looking for a DD C/O kit and for the price this one would be hard to beat. I don't want a bone shattering ride that is why I ask about the rates. However, if the shocks/struts are tunned for the spring rates the ride should be OK assuming the rates are crazy high.
The Tein basic kit is looking like a good solution with the more research I do.
Thanks for you help.
