well sadly its been over a week and a half of driving with no second and no fourth gear.

almost 2 weeks ago, i was driving to kaneohe, but still close to my house(thankfully) and my shifter started to feel downright weird, like all sloppy all of a sudden, so i started slowing down and i heard something pop and before i knew it, my lever was totally disconnected from the linkage.....i popped the boot off and seen that it was disconnected. i called a friend over and we somehow popped the hook in enough to get into some sort of gear. we quickly drove to my house even though 1st gear was where 2nd was:confused.

we then put my car on some ramps and correctly(so we thought) aligned the gears so that they were the same as before(thats what it felt like) but for some reason, it pops out of 2nd when i put it in even under the slightest acceleration. and 4th gear will stay in if i hold it in:confused

to anyone that has experience or knows how to fix/align this, please chime in. i dont want to have to pay $$$ to fix something that imo is relatively small, but at the same time big since im missing 2 whole gears

don't fret it sounds like a shifter bushing or something and not your transmission! look up all those short shift kit threads (SSK) and there will be a ton of info. my shifter is quite sloppy too so this is on my todo list as well (until it pops off and moves into top 3 todo LOL)

haha, for like the first 7 months i've had my 2002, I was driving with no shifter bushings whatsoever, they were just gone, hahahha.

But no, i have no clue about shifters on newer bimmers. i just had to post cuz i feel cooler because of that. that is all.

What concerns me is that it sounds like it pops out of gear once it is in it, is this the case? If it goes into third smoothly and then pops out, thats not good. If it goes into gear and then pops out because the shifter feels "preloaded" or something that is probably not so bad probably have the shifter misaligned or something.

exactly...it doesnt go in then pop out, it pretty much just pops out and grinds while doing so for a little bit until i put it to the next gear.

i really hope its the bushings and stuff. i just ordered a budget ss kit from understeer, with new delrin carrier bushing, the modified selector rod, and the replacement bushing that they say needs to be replaced if you want your shifter to feel less sloppy.

this stuff should fix the problem right?

It's a cruise with some of the runumhard boys. I wouldn't suggest this as they attract lots of cops with burnouts at meet sites and racing on the freeway. My cops buddies love to pull these guys over.

They only work by PM as they don't want 5-0 to know their route. Watch out as they are a bunch of "mokes".

Anyways you guys are welcome to come if you want to.

Take the H-1 east and head to hawaii kai side, get off on the Waialai cut off and keep on the right hand side. After you pass the first stop light, you'll see a times super market, you should be under the freeway by the way!!! Then just keep going until you see kahala mall on your right hand side, you cant miss it!!! dont take the upper ramp to the top level, take the bottom level and you'll see the jamba juice there. if not look for a bunch of guys by there car. dont worrie cal if your coming ill keep a look out for your car, its only soooo loud!!!!!!!:eyecrazy j/p
