I'll be over on your island Friday, in Kahalui. I'll be big pimpin in a Chevy Aveo for the day. :buttrock
I've got an interview at 12:30pm, then I've got the rest of the day until I have to leave at 8:20 pm.

So what kinda trouble can I get into in 7 hours? I've never been to that island, but it'd be cool to see one or two of the major attractions in that time. I'm also up for some rally action in the Aveo. :buttrock

What do you want to do?

What do you want to do?

I dunno, don't know anything about Maui.

I've heard about Haleakala, the road to Hana, and waterfalls. But I kinda doubt I could do some of those in 7 hours without worrying about time.
If there are any cool scenic drives, waterfalls, or beach areas right nearby, I'd like to cruise around a little. :redspot

Where is your interview...that will give me an idea of what would be around.

The red e34 five wagon with the charcoal 5 spoke rims in the parking lot on Saturday, was that your ride?

You'll be out of your interview by... 1PM? Get a bite to eat in Kahului or Wailuku and it'll be 2PM. Flight is at 8:20, so you need to dump the rental at 7PM.... so you have five hours between lunch and airport.

I'd drive past (pass it up!) the west side, check out Honolua Bay, continue to the blow hoe :cool through Kahekuloa and end in Wailuku.

Extra time after a cold one on Lower Main Street? Check out Iao Valley. That is one major scene, IMO.

Enjoy Maui!

I told Enterprise I'd be dropping it off at 8 pm, so I should be ok. Thanks much for the advice on the route, i'll have to get out a map and get an idea of it.
If things work out well, I may be over there a lot more. :D

Here ya go! :buttrock May 20 & 21 this year! :buttrock

Day One: Saturday BMWCCA Hawaii SPRING FLING

Day Two: Maui SCCA Test & Tune on Sunday.

You have two options; i) Be present ii) configure oneself as an equilateral quadrangle.

hahah, yeah i am already aware of such events, and someone has even prematurely claimed my couch for the event, if such couch exists.

But first thing comes first: career is more important than racing. and don't count your goats before you milk them.
i'd still rather take a certain job over here, so i'm puttin the pressure on them to offer something quick, or else im goin over there. :alright

Crap, interview got pushed back to 1:30 pm, and should be out by 2:30 pm. Then plane leaves at 8:20pm. But maybe some time to screw around after I pick up the car at 9 am.
I'll review my plan closer to that time. Gotta get my use out of that Aveo, hahah. It was 24 cents more to have a Neon, but I didn't wanna be the high roller :cool . When I was on the big island for a week before, I managed put like 800 miles on an Aveo. :buttrock We'll see how many miles I can get in one day.

K Funk

OK, I'm lookin at map now and planning. Given extra time in the morning, 9 am until 1pm or so, I'm thinkin a cruise up to Iao, whatever that is, then back around town a little for lunch, and arrive for interview a little early around 1pm.

Then if its possible, did you mean for me to take Honoapiilani Hwy south, then do a full clockwise circle around the western tip? It looks really fun, but really far for the amount of time and the amount of horsepower in the Aveo (but of course I can drive an Aveo hard in corners :buttrock ) I put like 800 miles on an Aveo in the week I was on the big island.
Anyways, I'll be out of the interview around 2:30 pm (no need dinner, im a light eater)... plane officially leaves at 8:20 pm, and I said I gave 8pm as rental car drop off time. If I am late for plane, is it that difficult to get put on another?

The later flights tend to be the most empty, so I dont think it would be an issue to get put on one of the later flights.

Your interview sorta interupts the day. :confused I'd suggest an hour, maybe two for the drive to and from and time spent wandering around Iao Valley. All morning might be a stretch, unless you light to meditate and such.

The route I mentioned takes you past Ma'alaea, past Ka'anapali, past Kapalua and on around the northern end of the island. Sorry, I don't know the highway numbers. You don't want to be out on the north end after dark.

Far as catching a later flight... is there any after 8PM?

K Funk
05-12-2006, 05:55 AM
hmmm, well we'll see what happens I guess.
I just found out a certain female friend is over there right now, so plans may have to be rearranged. :devillook

OK, I'm back.

Damn girl didn't call me, but instead e-mailed me her phone number, and I never found a place to check my e-mail over there. :mad

But anyways, I was surprised by how small Kahului is.... but I went up to Iao first, then took off driving up around the north shore to the west... since that looked like a really cool road on the map. and im very happy i went that way, since i loved that road.:buttrock
I got pretty far past the mendes ranch, but got worried since i had 1/4 tank of gas, and didn't know where next gas station would be, so i turned around. Went and got lunch at Marco's.. tried to drive to Paia, but got stuck in hell of traffic jam, pulled U-turn and went back to town, and to interview. interview went pretty well i think.
I was done at 2:15, and decided to go straight up Haleakala. On the plane I met this guy Kendall from the UFC reality show on SpikeTV, and he said I had plenty of time to do it. Glad I did, it was really damn cool. I chilled at Kula for a little bit, and really enjoyed the road. Too cloudy to see in the crater or anywhere else though. But now its cool since I've been to the highest points on each of the three biggest hawaiian islands.
I got back to town by 5:30, then thought I'd cruise over to Lahaina, but then I got caught in some hellacious traffic jam that wouldn't move.... so I pulled a U-turn and went back shopping at Queen Kaahumanu Center, watched the senior karaoke and got dinner, then hot krispy kremes, and barely got back to airport in time.
Very nice island, and very nice roads. :redspot

Glad you enjoyed your time here.

I had some of my employees get stuck over on Lahaina side today. There was a truck the turned off spilling its contents on the road and shutting down the entire highway.

yeah, i heard that on the radio in the morning, but then heard on the radio that it was all clear. but it wasn't clear, some other stupid shit happened. :mad

ah well, all the more reason to go back and do more. we'll see what happens, but i can't see why they wouldn't offer me the job....but who knows.. and i still need to hear back on better job here.

Again? That's funny when I was in Maui last October, the same thing happened to me near Lahaina - truck fell of a slight grade at a construction site and spilled rocks and crap all over the road. Traffic was a nightmare took me hours coming back from Haleakala.
