1 . see the rust spot on the carpet by the clutch pedal- i bet there is hole under the car
2 High mlg. none rebuilt- a lotof miles
3 pretty expensive
4 runs poorly- a sign of trouble
5 the owner is sick of fixing it all the time
6 Had a cloged/bad cat and needed work to get smoged- usually a car that takes lotsa love
7 expensive
8 also the seats are done

Check for rust

yea, im trying too...he was stuck at 1500 which is way too much and then i finally got him to fall to 1300. He's spent alot of money on the car and he expects to get it back.

If you could get him down to around $1000, that would be ideal. If you can't, $300 isn't much of a stretch. It's still a lot of car for the money. Plus, you get to go party in Nashville! That city rocks!

Not worth $1300, $1000 maybe. I paid $900 for a rust free car with 200k+ miles and no rebuild.

That spot on the carpet is from a past leak, probably clutch or brake master. The car isnt bad and probably worth the $1300. You need a compression check to make sure the engine is still good enough to be fun; if it's around 140+ you should probably take it. The rough idle is easy to fix if you keep playing around and learn kjet. It's always a vacuum leak, then mixture adjust, in my experiance.

One things for sure, drive it before you buy it.

I say it should be about $900 considering it is bone stock and has over 200M on the clock. Though it seems to have good paint. None the less, mine was $1200 which wasn't that good either, but it had 186M on the clock and came with the BBS 15" wheels and the Neuspeed strut bar and was in CHERRY condition. Just had a very dusty engine bay. But it was cherry.

This still needs the seats redone, the pedals redone, the carpet redone, the shift boot replaced, the wheels repainted or shined up, a right bumper corner, the rust taken out under the right taillight, the front tip of the hood fixed, the kidneys replaced, the cig lighter and Air Conditioning hooked up, and the idle fixed.

This is just from what I can notice in 4 minutes. I am not acctually there to see what else. But you be the judge. Overall, it doesn't seem like a bad car. Acctually looks pretty good. Just don't give up on the price till it's at $900-$1000. Good luck. Keep us informed. ;)

Yeah, my $.02 - it isn't worth near $1300 to me. To you, might be different. I got my E21 for $200 but it has taken a lot more work to get it to be a driver. I prefer sweat equity to cash, usually.

1 I see no rust spot on the carpet. I see dirt or a small twig or leaf. It doesn't snow much in Nashville.
2 High mlg. not rebuilt- a lot of miles
3 pretty expensive
4, 5, 6) I see an owner that doesn't know how to trouble shoot a simple K-jet problem so tried getting rid of the rough idle by replacing lots of parts. He says nothing of hard starts, just rough idle. Check for vacuum leaks, check plug condition (rich or lean) then try adjusting mixture rich or lean to smooth idle.
7 expensive.
8 get recaros anyway.

he wont come down on the price. Should i let it go or buy it for 1300? I still think its a pretty good deal.

my $0.02 - i'd say let it go... you'll come across another one... IMO our cars require a fair amount of patience... so to practice it now may be a good start. good luck whatever you decide. /FS

Thats one reason why I love classics. Sure I could own one newer BMW. But why? When for the same price I can have three sweet classics!:D

Yeah, its wierd. I acctually get more looks in this than in my E36. And that had a lot of money dumped into it. My E21 doesn't have more than like $3,000 in it. My E36 had like $5,200 in it.

Barry - Dude, don't get me started on that one...

I needed to get hit over the head much earlier so that I started with the E21 instead of the E36. Damn!

A friend up here just got a 320/6 (2.0L carbed 6) (I'm jealous I didn't see it sitting in the weeds first...) with a little rust on the window frame, and rust in the trunk and a small hole in the front fender for about $1200.00 has euro bumpers and km/hr spedo too....

I baught 2 E21s for $700. One was a 320i and the other(my current e21) is a 320IS with sunroof and some odd extras. I also have a limited production spoiler from Kormans(no big diving board for me) and some xender kit stuff(ugly.)

I paid $25.00 for my 78, and $300.00 for 2 79s one with a horid body and good motor, and one with a bad motor and slighty better body, and it has recaros, lsd etc...

I am putting more money in the front end of the car than I paid for it...new Koni Red strut inserts (if I can figure out how to get the tie rods off without destroying them) new bearings, new rotors and pads...
