View Full Version : I guess i bought the wrong brakes 7billig 05-07-2006, 09:53 PM I have a 95 e38 730i, euro version, and when i was replacing the brakes i discovered the ones i bought wouldnt fit, anybody know what my problem is? Rob Levinson 05-07-2006, 11:33 PM I have a 95 e38 730i, euro version, and when i was replacing the brakes i discovered the ones i bought wouldnt fit, anybody know what my problem is? What are the part numbers on the parts you received? - Rob 7billig 05-08-2006, 02:06 PM Alright, here are the numbers sent on the invoice: BEC-083-2507 front rotor BEC-083-2547 rear rotor BEC-087-1651 rear pads BEC-087-1610 front pads Heres what it read on the disk: rear rotor 19 04 B DA MINTH 10,4mm brembo 08558010 front rotor 05 05 C AA MINTH 28,4mm brembo 09557910 Pads front Mintex MDB2280 05101982 A/F 47E FF Pads rear Mintex MDB2004 05112504 A/F 17E I got these brakes from a ebay seller FCP GROTON probably like a month ago, i've just been to lazy and busy to put them on until yesterday. Im thinking that these would fit an american e38, maybe the 740's and 750's here have a larger brake than the 728, 730, and 735's there. I hope not because i have no idea where i'll get these brakes from. Chris735i 05-08-2006, 02:33 PM The front rotors are different sizes depending on model 728,730,735 are 316x28 740 is 324x30 750 is 334x32 have you tried realoem. com? Rob Levinson 05-08-2006, 03:02 PM I can look up the BMW part numbers, but not those private-label part numbers. Nevertheless, Chris735i hit the nail on the head... your 730i takes different parts than the US-market 740 or 750. - Rob 7billig 05-08-2006, 04:15 PM chris, you know a good place to by replacement brakes for the 728-35? Also anyone interested in some cheap brembo rotors with mintex pads? I got them for 280 bucks the whole package, i would sell for less if anyone's interested. 7billig 05-08-2006, 05:35 PM whats up with realoem.com? i cant get it to come up? Chris735i 05-09-2006, 01:58 AM Unfortunately the only places I can get parts for a good price are in the UK, shipping would be costly to New Mexico :) Just looked at realoem for a 95 euro 730i Front rotors (pr) $103.23 Front pads (pr) $111.04 Rear Rotors (pr) $96.53 Rear pads (pr) 99.58 Rob Levinson 05-09-2006, 08:24 AM Here's an alternate suggestion... You've already purchased the 740 rotors and pads, correct? Might be difficult, expensive, or even impossible to return them? Why not simply pick up a set of 740 calipers and carriers, and convert your 730 to the larger brakes? It's a one-time additional expense, and all your future maintenance would be much simpler! - Rob 7billig 05-09-2006, 06:25 PM what is the carrier, just the thing that you bolt the rotor to? This might be a good idea, i sure wish i could get realoem to come up, it never seems to work anymore Rob Levinson 05-09-2006, 10:59 PM The carrier is the part that holds the caliper. See this page: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=GH83&mospid=47531&btnr=34_0517&hg=34&fg=05 The carrier is part #2 in this pic: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/diagrams/q/b/1.png - Rob T56 Impala 05-10-2006, 08:22 AM Sorry you are having these troubles. I do not mean to hijack the tread but, while we are on the subject of retrofitting....Does anyone know if the carrier bracket for the 2001 740 and the 2001 750 are different? I would like to put the dual piston front calipers on my 740 but am unsure what parts I really need. Are the brackets different or just the calipers? Thanks. Totally different parts between the 750 and 740 (except for the rare 740 Protection Package which has the 750 parts... and unless your 740 is bulletproof, it's not a Protection Package car :D). - Rob Reed Hunt 05-10-2006, 11:53 AM Sorry you are having these troubles. I have done this swap, and it's no big deal PROVIDED you have the brackets. If you can't find them, you can always buy them separately... Be aware, though, that your choice of non-stock brake pads is limited (versus the 740) :-( 7billig 05-12-2006, 12:09 PM After looking at the costs of new calipers i realize that i should stick with what i got. But i do have a set of 740 brakes for sale. They are brembos with Mintex pads for all four wheels. |
