View Full Version : remove dullness on clear coat
Blink21Me 05-02-2006, 12:20 AM So my rear spoiler's clear coat had this dull appearance... When I got my car tinted today by Vince from Omega Tintwerks, he noticed the rear spoiler and he kinda put some kind of a wax called Diamond *sumth'n sumth'n* wax and buffed it with a piece of cloth... it showed improvement... So I don't have a quick access to what he applied on my clear. But, I was wondering if you guys know of any other materials that can be effective, or, what other methods do you guys know of to remove the dullness off of the clear coating???
TIA
Ryan328i 05-02-2006, 12:40 AM Hard to say without looking at it. But I would say that some type of polish should bring it back to life. Something along the lines of Klasse AIO. Wax is probably just covering over your dullness, not really doing anything to remove it.
Blink21Me 05-02-2006, 04:47 AM I have been using the Klasse AIO and SG along with the Porter Cable, I probably didn't polish it right since I have only dont it to this car once... But I'll do that in a few days or so... hhhmmm also picked up a Turtle Wax heavy duty rubbing compound just in case...
croberts12 05-02-2006, 09:23 AM I used a turtle wax rubbing compund once on my range rover hood after I crashed it and the hood already had a giant scratch, and the compund scratched it up so bad.

Yeah don't use that stuff...theres a reason it's like 50 cents. Do you clay beforre using the Klasse twins?
Ryan328i 05-02-2006, 12:09 PM I wouldn't use that Turtle Wax rubbing compound either, it's probably going to do more harm rather than help you. Read through the Detailing 101 thread and make sure that you're polishing correctly.
Laxpunk2006 05-02-2006, 01:44 PM Don't start with the Rubbing compound. As stated you may do more harm than good. Start off with the AIO as it's a non-abrassive cleaner. If that doesn't work move up to a light polish and work your way to a more agressive polish if needed. Always start with the least agressive and work your way up. The paint on your spoiler is probably oxidized and these steps should take care of it.
Blink21Me 05-02-2006, 02:59 PM oh shyt, k... thanks for the heads up guys

AC535im 05-06-2006, 03:43 PM my clearcoat is about finished on the hood. I tried some Eagle 1 polish, but it didn't help. The car is red which can fade pretty bad. Time to save for new paint.
Blink21Me 05-07-2006, 03:10 AM I used Klasse AIO, wow, I've been using this product for almost a year now and didn't even think of trying it. worked really great...
Landerholm 05-07-2006, 04:21 AM Yeah AIO does wonders against oxidization. I cant think of anything better.

Now that you've used AIO to rejuvenate your red, seal it quickly. Without a good sealant, it's going to fade quite fast again. SG is the sealant you want and probably have it since you already have the AIO.
