I need to put masking tape on the exterior of my car. Will this damage the paint? Is there a better kind of paint to use other than masking tape?

thanks

I use painters tape on cars every day to mask off trim - Ive never had an issue. Sometimes the glue on the tape sticks but it wipes right off with a little water and a mf cloth.

Any Painter's tape will do just fine.

I just use the 1 inch thick stuff since it means less layers to mask everything off. Brand isn't important. Cheers.

I use 3M painters tape on trim. Tape is fine on paint you just want to make sure it comes off cleanly so you dont mar the finish trying to get adhesive off. After about 3 days the adhesive seems to get hard to remove, but thats just my experience.

look for the blue masking tape. It's the painters stuff the guys have been mentioning.

I used 3M painter's tape to mask off trim, emblems, and door handles and I found it worked a lot nicer than whatever the last brand tape I had was. This stuff came off very easily leaving nothing behind.

It kept tearing and splitting and leaving goo behind. I think its really only good for about 2 days.
