looks like rain tomorrow and we have an autox to go to. I've always thought that if there was standing water on the course, it would be better to run a grooved street tire. What do you guys think? Any rules of thumb worth mentioning? I'm sure I'll be asking myself tomorrow if I should put the hoosier's on or not, and if it's steady rain all day, I think it'll be street tires. What do you guys think?

It depends on how cold/wet it is, but when I was running shaved RA1s I definately felt that I could be faster on good street tires, espcially in braking zones.

if it is wet hoosiers will suck! it started to rain a little bit at VIR when we were down there in qualifying and at the begining of my second lap it was a drizzle by the time i got to oak tree it was a steady rain and by the time i got to roller coaster i spun under braking and could barely drive the car. It was like ice. a decent performance street tire should do just fine in the rain.

lucky for me it didn't rain and I walked away with another 1st place SM victory :)

If the ground is damp but there is no standing water, the slick r-comps will be faster. If there is standing water a grooved tire will be faster.
