View Full Version : ESS supercharger GB
Striker[x] 10-25-2002, 04:45 AM Just wana know if anyone is interested in an ESS supercharger GB. You can visit www.koperformance.com for more info on there product. Also this is an article by DTM power on the supercharger http://www.dtmpower.net/pictures/ess/writeup_ess.html. This is there home site http://www.esstuning.com/
They claim 357hp on a 1995 M3. This particular kit is selling for 4750.00 USD. AA stage 1 gen 3 turbo kit is selling for 8000 something and it claims 360 hp... so thats something to think about price difference! Also ESS is backed by a 2year/unlimited mileage warranty. Most of the new generation supercharger systems by ESS use VORTECH supercharges which im sure most of you have heard about.
Chongus 10-25-2002, 05:58 AM What is the asking price? Also, if installation is possible, please list the complete price installed.

I would check out this thread to see how it went last time

edboc 10-25-2002, 11:21 AM How many people do they want for a group buy? Isn't it cheaper just to buy directly from ESS?
phid_bombadier 10-25-2002, 02:03 PM What's the GB pricing look like?
Thanks.
PDX///M 10-25-2002, 02:06 PM ESS SC on a 95 M3 RWHP 287.
I have never seen the HP that they claim. I cant speak for other vendors either but take the numbers with a grain of salt.
Dont be surprised if you dont see the numbers they got.
dont go ess..... please guys.... really bad experience with 540.... and ive dont enough force induction parts in my days.... including custom ones.... ess is not worth money.... at alll!
edboc 10-25-2002, 02:29 PM Is RMS better than ESS?
PDX///M 10-25-2002, 03:18 PM search the archives here and at DTM there are a ton of people that have had problems with RMS and ESS. Dinan really hasnt had any issues but they are spendy.
You also might wait for the results from AA. They are making a SC kit sometime next year.
If you live close to RMS and have them do the install and you can take it to them for tweaking then I would say go RMS.
If you are going to do the install yourself and you have a tuner in your area I would say ESS is just as good. The install is a bitch and the instructions are not great. You need to be mechanically inclined to do this.
If money isnt an object and you just want more HP i would go with Dinan.
Or personally if I had to do it again, i would leave it as is and not go forced induction. The HP gains are nice but you get heat soak and you will have to think about water injecting etc.
If I have to give advice on this I would go with Chips and intake, exhaust, maybe cams if you have to have more power.
My opinion of course..... but I did buy and install an ESS kit on my 95 so i guess my opinion means something.
Good Luck
edboc 10-25-2002, 03:57 PM Thanks. I have been reading around about these kits, and there are certainly mixed results with SC kits other than Dinan. I would probably get the work done with Turner since I live in Mass. I asked Doug at Turner, and he suggested to purchase a RMS Supercharger. They will install them if you buy one. Another alternative is the '96+ cam kit that is coming out early next year from Turner.
Striker[x] 10-25-2002, 09:47 PM Wohoaa guys guys guys, sorry but I guess I forgot to type this or something. When I posted this thread I only wanted to see how many people were interested in an ESS supercharger. Note the part interested. Im not a veteran or whatever at this GB stuff so if enough people were interested I would try to contact ESS or Koperformance or someone to see if they would be interested in scoring us a deal. So far im getting a lot of negative feed back which is okay, im actually happy people are looking out for one another and warning us about this system. I had no idea that some ppl were really unhappy with it. However I am still interested so if you are please write back with your thoughts. Sorry I don't have prices yet, check out the prices that ESS has on there site to see if thats at least in your price range.
Thanx
Geoff
Striker[x] 10-26-2002, 05:45 PM For those of you who are still interested in this group buy. I just talked to Nick from KO performance there regular price on RMS superchargers 5800 vs 5995 from RMS and 4600 vs 4795 which is about a 200 dollar savings. NOW THIS IS NOT THE GB PRICE it is simply the price they would sell an individual kit for a 1993 3.25is (E36) which would be my car. He is interested in providing us with a GB so i'll have more details for you in the near future. If you are interested however please email me gdawg132@hotmail.com and tell me what kinda ride this is for so I can tell Nick what kind of superchargers he needs to discount for us.
P.S. ESS superchargers on there site all have a $90.00 flat shipping rate, im not sure if thats good but it doesn't sound bad. However I do not know if this applies to the GB but im sure I can work something out with Nick.
Thanx
Geoff
Striker[x] 10-26-2002, 10:47 PM Okay guys this is the info Nick emailed me about the GB. He is from KO performance.
1-4 kits 3% off list
5-9 kits 6.25% off list, 1% extra discount if paying via paypal, check,
or money order
10+ kits 9.5% off list, 1% extra discount if paying via paypal, check, or
money order
Keep in mind that the shipping is $90 for each kit and ESS can take some
time seeing as they are in europe.
Check www.koperformance.com for the specific supercharger that will fit your car and apply the discount on it. I emailed him and asked him if this applies to both the RMS superchargers and the ESS so i'll have to get back to you guys about that later.
Thanx
Geoff
just some info for fellow enthusiasts
the RMS kit is on GP straight from RMS. do a search in bimmerforums GP folder. BUT you guys should know the price is actually 5400 + 400 tax. and there shouldn't be any tax on mail order out of CA. you'll see more info in the thread
also on ESS, there was a GP earlier this year, PDX //M has a great webpage on it (not sure if its still up) do a search in the same folder. you will also find alot of people had problems, wait times and parts issues.
just an fyi
jeff
PDX///M 11-01-2002, 06:05 PM It is still there but needs updating.
The ESS bracket setup looks better but other than that the kits are pretty similar. So its a toss up in my opinion.
Honestly if you guys have to have a SC make sure that you are mechanically inclined. There are many, many possible problems that you could / will run into.
I personally dont recommend it having gone through it.
There are a lot of others that have had great experiences but others who have not.
So be prepared, it may be a simple bolt on and go job. Or it could be a PITA and you might have to go through several versions of software from any company you go through.
